The Building Services Department is seeking (1) Operations Manager, Grounds and Landscaping to join the already awesome team taking the Building Services Department to the next level of excellence!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The ideal candidate will manage GSU's Grounds and Landscaping Operations under the Building Services Department. They will oversee managing 24/7 coverage on six campuses totaling over 768 acres, 142 buildings, over 26 full-time employees, and over $500,000 in supplies, equipment, and contract services purchased each year. They will oversee the staffing and personnel functions for Grounds Keeper I and II, Utility workers, and Forepersons, including attendance, disciplinary actions, promotion/demotion decisions, and performance evaluations. They will also assist the Director of Building Services in developing policies, procedures, and training programs. In addition to supporting the department, the Operations Manager, Grounds and Landscaping will also:

  • Responsible for assisting in human resource functions for all staff, including, but not limited to, hiring, terminating, counseling, and ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet the needs of the campuses in which services are provided for.
  • Provides general supervision to all Grounds and Landscaping Operations employees under Building Services.
  • Conducts regular meetings with the department staff to share ideas and changes and discuss opportunities for improvement.
  • Performs inspections of all campus facilities and grounds to ensure high appearance and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitors and manages quality assurance programs, trends data, initiate performance improvement projects, and provides follow-up to internal customers, visitors, and staff.
  • Works closely with other department leaders to ensure customer satisfaction with the services provided by the division.
  • Assists with information flow, operations management, business process development, organizational planning, and communication of strategic goals.
  • May also assist in overseeing the procurement of supplies and equipment and managing service contracts within the Division of Building Services.
  • Maintains current knowledge of all supplies, equipment, and industry standards used and practiced within Grounds and Landscaping operations and oversees the implementation of these items.
  • Create maintains, and implement training programs for Grounds and Landscaping Operations.
  • Assists with monitoring expenses using Panther Mart and other financial systems.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field and two years of supervisory/managerial experience; or a combination of education and experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledge of computer operations, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Experience working in a university or institutional setting, preferably in a facilities service environment.
  • Leadership experience, including supervision, counseling, and staff development.
  • Budget planning/oversight
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work across various shifts as needed.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of APPA or other professional facilities organization operational standards/guidelines
