Position Title: Operating Room Patient Care Technician

Department: Surgery

Supervisor Title: Operating Room Director

Starting wage: $16.90 (+) depending on experience

While upholding the Star Valley Health mission, vision, and values this key position is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care through the assessment of the patient upon admission to the pre-op area and/or the post-op area, and on a continuing basis. The CNA assists the Pre-op and PACU nurses and collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. This is an at-will position.

Job Duties

  • Performs direct patient care through procedures within the scope of your training and practice, according to state and federal regulations and facility policies and procedures
  • Assists nurses as needed
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment
  • Attend and improves competency through in-service meetings and continuing education classes
  • Works under the direct and indirect supervision of an RN when performing delegated patient care activities
  • Deliver various samples to Lab for testing
  • Help move and position patients
  • Stock rooms and manage par levels
  • Check product outdates at the end of the month
  • Perform standard tests to monitor the effectiveness of sterilization procedures including selecting the appropriate cleaning methods.
  • Direct patient care through sterilization procedures within the scope of your training and practice, according to state and federal regulations and facility policies and procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with the OR staff to provide timely sterile products.
  • Maintain consistency and continuous workflow between the OR and Sterile Processing while practicing excellent customer service.
  • Maintain strong working/collaborative relationships with other departments to ensure the flow and continuity of services.
  • Completion of a formal operating room procedures training program or an on-the-job training program supervised by the Surgery Department Director.
  • Assists in ensuring all equipment is functioning properly, troubleshoots as indicated, and schedules maintenance as needed, and effectively communicates status to the rest of the team.
  • Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Sets up, operates, and monitoring of the autologous cell-saver equipment during or after surgery. Cleans and restocks the equipment and supplies associated with.
  • Performs all sterile processing duties including but not limited to: decontamination, washing, inspecting, assembling, and preparing for terminal sterilization. Operates all sterile processing equipment including but not limited to: washers, sterilizers, heat sealers, etc.
  • Performs all steps in the process of decontaminating and sterilizing endoscopes.
  • Assists in ensuring all equipment is functioning properly, troubleshoots as indicated, and schedules maintenance as needed.
  • Assists with pulling supplies, instruments, and equipment for the next day’s cases according to the surgeon’s preference card.
  • Preoperative Duties are as follows:
  • Assists the team members with gowning and gloving.
  • Gathers, checks and opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure
  • Assist in setting up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure.
  • Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time of procedure.
  • Intraoperative Duties are as follows:
  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure.
  • Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure.
  • Prepares and passes off specimen(s) as appropriate.
  • Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
  • Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room and preparing for the next patient
  • Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
  • Properly cares for specimens..

  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize
  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and on time

Experience & Education:

  • Current BLS/CPR Certification
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Prior medical training and experience

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.90 - $24.56 per hour
