We are seeking an Outreach Coordinator: to oversee BART Outreach Team services and to provide daily street outreach to engage and homeless adults with accessing services.

The SF BART Outreach Team provides outreach throughout the city/county of SF within the BART stations, surrounding encampments on BART property, and on the BART trains. The team’s goal is to assess the housing and service needs of individuals who are homeless in these regions, to facilitate connections to shelter, benefits, behavioral health and primary healthcare services. The SF BART Outreach Team partners with BART staff to identify areas to outreach and support the BART Crisis intervention team engaging with individuals during a crisis.

Schedule Hours: 5AM - 1PM:

Responsibilities: :

    • Supervise one Peer Specialist and oversee the BART Outreach Team services.
    • Facilitate daily check in meeting at the beginning of each shift with BART PD
    • Perform daily street outreach in partnership with BART staff to engage homeless adults in accessing resources (i.e. shelter, housing problem solving, medical care, apply for benefits, referral to psychiatric care, social services)
    • Collaborate with BART Crisis Intervention Team Program Coordinator as well as BART Outreach Teams with a goal of connecting individuals to positive resources.
    • Maintain clear and open communication with BART team.
    • Utilize motivational interviewing to support participants in seeking mental health services.
    • Provide substance use support utilizing knowledge of harm reduction methods
    • Refer individuals to access points to complete or update Coordinated Entry assessments.


Qualifications: :

    • BA/BSW required. MSW/MA Psychology, Human Services or related field preferred.
    • Bilingual Spanish or other language (Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Hindi) preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of San Francisco housing and homeless resources.
    • Strong engagement, assessment, and crisis intervention skills.
    • Must have a working knowledge of psychiatric and substance use disorder. Two years of field experience working with people with co-occurring disorders and/or who are homeless.
    • Knowledge and ability to implement the following evidence-based models; Stages of Change, Harm Reduction, and Motivational Interviewing.
    • Ability to build supportive and respectful working relationships with participants that instills hope and promotes self-determination using a strengths-based approach.
    • Sensitivity to and understanding of the special needs of the homeless.
    • Ability to effectively intervene in crisis situations using de-escalation techniques.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills.
