WHAT WE NEED

The Associate Packaging Engineer is located at our Macedon, NY location and will assist R&D packaging design & development work to drive top line growth and bottom line revenue. Provide strategic guidance as it relates to emerging packaging technologies that align with and accelerate growth and cost optimizing initiatives. Support cross-functional project teams to identify and implement innovative packaging designs and processes. Support and manage the design/plan/validation and implementation of new packaging, line extensions, product improvement, cost savings and technical service for Baldwin Richardson Foods that meet product offering requirements.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Create process and document for testing and sampling request.
  • Support technical delivery of base business and high complexity projects.
  • Execute packaging projects, including innovation, line extensions, cost savings, quality improvements and manage smaller projects independently
  • Provide support to operations initiatives and supports of plant trials and startup of new products
  • Create and finalize packaging specifications, in-process control points and establish testing requirements and operating guidelines
  • Share technical knowledge with cross-functional project teams during manufacturing start-ups and provide ongoing technical service
  • Participates in tests, collection and analysis of data on new products
  • Ensures all activities are conducted in compliance with established safety standards and Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP)
  • Actively supports planning and decision-making process by providing technical input to project directions
  • Prepare and present results of technical reports, both written and oral.
  • Maintain awareness of technical trends and developments in the packaging industry.
  • Awareness of project implications to budget.


WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Packaging Engineering or Packaging Science.
  • 1 to 2 years related experience in consumer packaging design and development experience as well cost-optimized packaging within the CPG, pharmaceutical, or cosmetic industries.
  • Basic understanding of packaging materials- such as paperboard, corrugate, film, Rigid PET/HDPE/PP and glass packaging materials.
  • Basic understanding of packaging capabilities, and equipment capabilities along with test methodologies.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with engineers and suppliers to achieve project objectives and maintain cross-functional partnerships.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate time management and prioritization skills.
  • Moderate analytical and logical problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of basic business principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and knowledge of palletization software.
  • Problem solving skills through collaboration and application of technical skills.
  • Ability to function well in a fast paced, ambiguous work environment.
  • Ability to manage projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, and packaging palletization programs; CORES and Tops. Previous SAP knowledge is preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
