Overview:
  • The Line Inspector/Packer is responsible for the visual inspection of raw material in-process at the inspection station to make sure quality standards and specifications are in compliance, the removal of sub-standard product and/or foreign material discovery and conform to food safety processes and procedures. Also, when performing the duties as a packer, the Line Inspector/Packer is accountable for the safe and efficient visual inspection of all packaged product produced and makes sure of all defective product is rejected by effectively checking for proper seals, accurate graphic design alignment, correct code dates and country of origin information, and the precise date and/or item identification coding.
Responsibilities:
  • Reports to inspection station before production line is ready to start in proper gowning.
  • Makes sure all correct raw materials are being used for product blends.
  • Reviews and verifies with Machine Operator and Quality Assurance Technician the accurate component list of raw materials introduced into the blend.
  • Communicates consistently with the Hopper Operator and the Quality Assurance Technician to maintain the correct ratio of raw material blend is according to quality standards and specifications.
  • Stops the inspection line for foreign material discovery or blended raw materials are not in compliance with customer quality standards and specifications.
  • Reports all out compliance blended product to the Machine Operator, the Quality Assurance Technician, the Quality Assurance Manager, and/or the Production Supervisor immediately to avoid production disruptions and to provide accurate corrections and resolutions.
  • Hands feed occasionally raw material ingredients into the in-process product blend in the event of insufficient hoppers in the blend system.
  • Alerts the Hopper Operator or the Machine Operator to refill raw material containers at the inspection station.
  • Washes and sanitizes conveyors and supporting equipment during production change-overs and wash-downs.
  • Ensures utensils are clean and sanitized and informs Quality Assurance Technician to replace or change utensil sanitation container.
  • Rinses and stores raw material containers away from the production lines for further disposition.

  • Confirms with Machine Operator, Production Supervisor, Quality Assurance Technician and/or Quality Assurance Supervisor, and/or Plant Manager accurate raw material blend information according to work orders sequence as determined by the production schedule to avoid production disruptions.
  • Reports to production line prepared with proper gowning and utensils for production startup.
  • Assures the safe and efficient visual inspection of all packaged product produced and makes sure of all defective product produced is rejected by effectively checking for proper seals, accurate label design alignment, correct country of origin information, and the precise date and/or production period coding.
  • Reports packaging material discrepancies to the Machine Operator, the Production Supervisor, the Quality Assurance Technician and/or Quality Assurance Manager, and/or Plant Manager immediately to avoid production disruptions and to provide accurate resolutions.
  • Makes sure finished product packaging material labels correspond with corrugated packaging material printed label on finished goods case.
  • Packs efficiently and effectively finished product into finished goods cases.
  • Assures all finished goods cases are properly closed and runs through tape machine for sealing.
  • Maintains work area clean, floors and surrounding area free of debris, and collects organic and inorganic waste in between work orders, change-overs, and/or wash-downs.
  • Practices and complies with all good manufacturing practices, food safety and work environment safety.
  • Washes and sanitizes conveyors and supporting equipment during production change-overs and wash-downs.

  • Complies with all Good Manufacturing Practices and plant and safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications:
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, bend, stoop, kneel, or hear; and occasionally required to climb, balance, crouch and crawl. The employee is frequently required to use hands, finger perform keystrokes, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or move up 5 to 10 pounds and occasionally, 10 to 20 pounds with assistance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk 20% to 100% and/or sit for 10% to 20% of the time working with equipment with keyboard and touchscreen devices, filling production documentation and/or adhering identification and barcoding tags on corrugated containers of bulk mixes during a shift of eight or more hours in length.
  • Willingness to work hours in excess of the normal schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Consistently adapts to changes in the work environment, manages contending demands and to be able to deal with frequent changes, delays, and unexpected events.
  • Must be able to handle stress and maintain a positive attitude and professionalism.
  • The employee must have the ability to work in and out of a refrigerated environment with temperatures ranging from 32F to 45F degrees. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Equipment is frequently washed resulting in wet floors. Hearing protection is required. In addition, the employee will have minimal exposure to hazardous chemicals or odors and must use protection as required.
  • EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE: Work experience in warehousing, logistics, or distribution.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, and procedure manuals as well as the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management. Must be able to speak, read, write and fully comprehend English language. Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • REASONING SKILLS: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and give instructions, oral or diagram form.
  • PLANNING/ORGANIZATION SKILLS: Must have ability to prioritize and plan work activities, using time efficiently, and developing realistic plans.
  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others as well as maintain constructive working relationship.
