Paralegal I (MERO) Job at Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation
Under the direction of the MERO Director, the incumbent performs all aspects of administrative support and provides legal assistance. Develops a working knowledge of Tribal Laws within the MERO’s jurisdiction and effectively communicates about the laws, regulations and MERO policies with diverse groups. Proficiently performs legal research and analysis, and drafts legal documents. Elicits, analyzes and interprets compliance information and assists in resolving discrepancies. Requires ability to organize, prioritize and complete numerous tasks under time constraints while maintaining attention to detail.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, exercise sound judgement, present professionally, and treat others with courtesy, tact and diplomacy. Must handle confidential and sensitive matters appropriately. Requires strong skills in Microsoft Office, PDF software, Zoom, online legal research services, internet browsers, document management, other common software, and social media. Must demonstrate a proficiency in Word, Excel and typing at 45 wpm. Must demonstrate some understanding of the Tribe’s Preference Law, Title 33. An Associate’s degree plus paralegal certificate and a minimum of two (2) years of related legal support experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or government agency (tribal or other government) or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required. A valid driver’s license and vehicle are required.
