Job Description

We are looking for a Paraprofessional to work with students assigned to the special education program or service at the STEP Program, under the direction of the licensed staff and performs duties to support the program in general. This includes, but is not limited to providing data-driven instructional support, personal care and behavioral assistance to students with special needs. Depending on student needs, responsibilities and duties may involve assisting and guiding students daily living skills, implementing behavior plans and /or monitoring and enforcing appropriate skills in accordance with instructional lesson plans and student Individualized Education Plans (IEP).

STEP (Student Transitioning in Educational Programming) is an educational program for young adults ages 18-21 with special needs. It is a community-based special education program emphasizing work experience and independent living skills. The 18-21 year old program services students who have completed high school requirements but are in need of extended schooling in two of the transition areas listed: Independent Living; Employment; Post Secondary Education and Training. The program was designed to meet these needs in the least restrictive, age appropriate environment.

Assignment: 7 hours/day for 182 day school year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reinforces and provides academic and classroom support in the learning of materials or skills introduced and provided by licensed/certified staff members in both individual (1:1) and small group settings. Reinforces skills based upon student's lEP, needs, interests and abilities under the guidance of licensed personnel. Works through assignments as prescribed. Provides supplemental guided practice and other instructionally relevant activities to students as directed by teacher(s). Assists students with various academic and behavioral needs.

• Answers questions about tasks, simplifies and/or modifies assignments.
• Monitors assignments provided by staff.
• Alerts staff to any problems or special information concerning IEP student(s).
• Assists with group educational activities that include lEP students.
• Assists staff with classroom supervision.
• Reinforces classroom academics to the individual needs and levels of student and lEP. Plans group times, activities and/or morning meetings.
• Modifies curriculum or assignments under the direction of special education or general education staff.
• Assists students through target behaviors.
• Assists and reinforces social skills and assists students navigate social settings, classroom and public settings.
• Engages and assists students with OT/PT sensory needs in accordance with student's IEP plan(s).
• Implements restrictive procedures to assure student and staff safety in accordance with training and behavioral need.

Minimum Qualifications

• A high school diploma
• MN driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility
• Upon hire, receives training in Restrictive Procedures

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.34 - $22.51 per hour
