This position may be part of the Town of Windsor Snow Team and therefore is eligible for additional compensation through our Snow Pay Incentive Program.

NATURE OF WORK
As a member of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Division, Individuals in this position perform a variety of park maintenance tasks. This position provides support to all aspects of parks maintenance operations. This includes but is not limited to grounds maintenance, facility construction, landscape construction, janitorial support, small equipment operation and special event support. May require evenings and weekends . May work up to 1456 per year.

Positions will work a Sunday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Saturday schedule, which may also require evening and holiday hours on an occasional basis. This part time employment may be scheduled through the year on a full-time basis depending on the needs of the Town but cannot exceed 1,456 hours.

Please note that Town employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one classification at any one given time.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Individuals work under the direct supervision/leadership of the Parks Supervisor or designee to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances. Individuals report directly to the Park Supervisor and/or Maintenance Technician .

SUPERVISION/LEADERSHIP EXERCISED
No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised.

Essential Job Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The individual in the Parks Maintenance Technician role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles and requirements as determined by the Town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive:

Requires operation of light hand power tools, ability to operate light equipment and perform general park and janitorial maintenance and support of recreation events and activities.

  • Trimming, refuse pick-up, cleaning of restrooms, edging, weeding, general clean-up
  • Operating riding mowers and hand mowers in mowing park turf areas
  • Playground inspections and minor repairs
  • Painting, minor repairs of park fixtures and simple construction projects.
  • Maintenance of ball fields, soccer fields, and tennis courts. Duties include installing pitching rubbers, home plates, bases and base pegs, watering and dragging of fields talc lining fields, cleaning of dugouts and areas associated with ball fields. Soccer field maintenance includes installing nets; layout of fields, marking lines and refuse pickup. Tennis courts to include tennis net installation, cleaning of courts and refuse pickup of associated areas.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of park mowers and other related park maintenance equipment.
  • Performs work in a courteous and safe manner and maintain working relationships with co-workers.
  • Effectively communicates with the public and maintains a courteous and helping attitude.
  • Works in a team environment as part of the Parks division.
  • Performs and fosters an environment of safe work practices and report safety issues promptly to direct supervisor.
  • Performs other related work as required and assigned.
OTHER DUTIES


Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:

  • The Parks Maintenance Technician position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check.
  • Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc.
  • Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the Town.
  • Assists other Town departments/divisions, as necessary.
  • Assist with Snow Team operations from October through April.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Some experience in the use of power mowers, electric tools, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, and assorted gardening implements and operation of light equipment.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
  • Must have a current Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one upon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor’s standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to perform manual tasks with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to take verbal and written directions.
  • Demonstrate ability to operate small power equipment, hand tools, and operate light equipment.
  • Perform simple construction projects.
  • Knowledge of general turf and park maintenance practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and the public.
  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the Town of Windsor and the department.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, clearly and effectively with people inside and outside the organization using verbal and written methods.
  • Ability to perform the necessary functions of the position and to make appropriate decisions consistent with the job expectations and position description.

Materials and equipment used include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Equipment: Position requires use of a variety of park maintenance equipment and related tools, computers, tablets or other digital equipment, digital cameras, copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines, telephones.
  • Materials: Position requires use of a variety of park maintenance supplies and materials related to landscape and facility maintenance.

The physical activities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.

The physical requirements of this position are considered Heavy Work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general labor, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).

The employee may be subject to the following environmental conditions: outside, with little to no effective protection from weather; extreme cold, typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour; extreme heat, temperatures typically above 100 degrees of periods of more than one hour; subject to noise and vibration.

This position is not considered safety sensitive because the individual does not operate a commercial motor vehicle, as a regular function of his/her daily job duties.
