Purpose of Job

The purpose of this classification is to guard buildings and assigned areas against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.

This is a safety sensitive position that requires a drug screen.

Essential Functions

The Security Guard is responsible for the following essential functions:

• Controls entrances and exits of visitors and employees after hours through identity checks and notations of purpose for visits.
• Patrols assigned area to maintain security; watches for disturbances and checks for violations of established laws, ordinances, rules and regulations; contacts appropriate law enforcement agencies when assistance is required.
• Inspects interior and exterior of building for any for unsecured means of entry to building; secures building.
• Answers calls from the public and from emergency responders; dispatches highway crews; enters work orders and notes call outs in dispatch log.
• Maintains daily communication through text message and other means with the Senior Director and Chief Operations Engineer at the close of each nightly shift.
• Assists highway crews by preparing materials, equipment and supplies for arrival and dispatch
• Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local, regional, or central office supervisors, as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
• Perform other duties as required

Minimum Training & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is preferred, with one (1) year related experience.
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered for employment into the position
