JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum Work Experience: Experience in related field is preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred but not required. Ability to read and write English. Knowledge of simple insurance rules and regulations. Knowledge of available assistance programs available to patients. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work with figures being able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Meets with all self-pay patients or responsible party within 24 hours of admission or next working day, whichever comes first. Give assistance in completing Medicaid, Social Security or County assistance applications. Reviews, investigates, and contacts all patients and/or guarantors classified as self-pay. Listens compassionately and actively to questions and concerns of the patients and/or family and friends. Able to interrelate and communicate with physicians, medical staff, attorneys, and other professionals.
Provides responses to patient and/or family members with concerns to insurance coverage and payment of deductibles and co-insurance. Educates, informs, and assists patients and/or family members as to the follow up requirements and standards of related agencies. Assists patient and/or family in establishing a payment plan compliant with the hospital credit policy. Establish rapport with physicians and their offices to facilitate financial status prior to services. Also works to obtain pre-authorizations for required services. Meets with pre-admit patients either in person or over the phone to educate the patient on the estimated patient responsibility. Finalize financial arrangements for adoptions prior to delivery. Routinely required to access the legal system regarding financial obligations. Works directly with Billing Office in collections. Assist admission clerks and/or the Switchboard operator in answering patient questions or covering their areas. Accepts other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Manager, Division Head or Administration.
