Patient Sitter Job Description: The primary duty of the sitter is to keep the patient under close observation, meaning that the patient must be within line of sight at all times, in order to prevent the patient from injuring themselves or others.
Job Responsibilities:

• perform under the supervision of the Patient Sitter Supervisor, EVS Supervisor, EVS Assistant Director, and EVS Director
• only act in a supportive role with respect to nurses, including:helping nursing staff re-position a patient, assisting a patient to restroom, and assisting nursing staff in transferring a patient.
• may assist the patient with eating a meal, with the exception of Baker / Marchman Act patients; provide companionship for the patient and alert the health care provider if the patient engages in activities that can result in injury; must never leave the patient unattended; and must complete the Continuous Observation Record daily and meet a 100% completion rate of the record.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to lift 0-40 lbs. frequently.
• Capable of standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, sitting and reaching continuously throughout the shift.
• Capable of pushing and pulling a housekeeping cart, linen cart, patient, or equipment (over 100 lbs.) on tile and carpeted surfaces continually throughout the shift.
• Capable of pushing and pulling furniture and equipment (25 to 300 lbs.) frequently.
• Capable of lifting furniture, patients, and equipment frequently.

Additional Requirements:

• Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and evening hours as needed per assignment.
• Patient Sitters interact frequently with facility employees, patients, and family members, Patient Sitters must be able to communicate clearly with others (verbally and in writing) in English when working in patient or patient-related areas.
