GENERAL SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Supervisor responsible for assisting in the performance of direct and indirect patient care for Cooper Green’s patient population. Demonstrates good rapport with all customers and demonstrates a positive attitude. Maintains an accurate inventory. Work involves collecting and processing blood samples; performing patient inquiries to determine the status of testing; delivers specimens to appropriate work area and receive incoming specimen for processing; and documenting errors. Work involves frequent exposure to biohazardous body fluids. Daily functions may include incidental exposure to vapors, fumes, moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, chemical, and biological hazards, patient contact, waste handling, and computer use. The Lead Patient Tech should be able to guide other techs and as well as complete all activities described below.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Displays effective communication skills.
Serves as a resource person for other patient techs.
Demonstrates a welcoming and supportive environment for new orientees
Orients new employees to the clinic
Identifies learning difficulties of orientee, shares with orientee and supervisor so action plan can be formulated
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of pt. satisfaction goals and scores and implements process improvement, if necessary.
Collects blood samples from patients, ensuring correct labeling.
Processes and prepares aliquots and labels specimens appropriately
Assists new PCTs and PES with lab and EHR computer system and blood collection, within the policy guidelines.
Helps prepares for lab inspections related to phlebotomy.
Works with providers and nursing staff on problem lab orders
Performs computer patient inquiry for determining status of testing when requested by nurses and physicians
Works with reference lab and lab supervisor to resolve problems with orders, insurance, or diagnosis codes
Performs any other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a nursing assistant or medical assistant training program. Three years’ experience may be equivalent for training program.
