The Pediatric Staff Nurse is responsible for providing direct client care as directed by physicians orders. Responsibilities include following the plan of care, providing treatments, and working collaboratively with the members of the team to help meet positive client care outcomes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • RN initiates the plan of care and subsequent revisions based on the clients health care needs. All staff nurses implement the care plan using the assessment information in conjunction with the physicians orders following established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide and assure the carrying out of established nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process, and assuring the maintenance of a safe, clean environment. Provides holistic, age appropriate total patient care demonstrating the ability to assess patient, situational needs and problems.
  • Administers and furnishes services requiring substantial and specialized nursing skills such as IV therapy, airway and ventilator management, medication management and administration, various treatments, dressings, other nursing services and intervention according to physicians orders, company policy and scope of practice.
  • Trains clients/consumer and the clients/consumers family in the treatment of the client/consumer medical needs while promoting a healthy environment and provides creative thinking to meet the clients care objectives.
  • Provides regular communication to the RN Case Manager and other disciplines on the care team.
  • Arranges for needed supplies and equipment.
  • Records any incidents or client/consumer complaints and initiates incident reports and/or client complaint forms when necessary.
  • Demonstrates an ability to maintain confidential patient information within the legal parameters for health care professionals.
  • Performs supervision and training to Home Care Aides and LPNs as needed.
  • Utilizes scientific training, proven nursing interventions, and best practices to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Directs and teaches LPNs, personal care and support service staff, clients/consumers, and family members.
  • Prepares clinical and progress notes evaluating clients/consumers response to the nursing care provided within agency policies.
  • Attends mandatory team meetings and in-service meetings.
  • Maintains and verifies compliance with the physicians plan of treatment.
  • Promotes Iowa Home Care mission, vision, and values at all times.
  • Communicates in a clear, courteous, and professional fashion with all patients, outside vendors, and Iowa Home Care employees.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Knowledge of nursing care in accordance with regulations and practices established by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to assess clients/consumers condition and implement a plan of care meeting clients/consumers needs and physicians orders.
  • Ability to maintain a valid Iowa nursing license or compact licensure as necessary.
  • Knowledge of Iowa Home Cares quality care objectives, and the ability to follow those objectives when providing care for clients/consumers.
  • Ability to effectively listen and communicate with clients/consumers and staff.
  • Ability to maintain and manage confidential information.
  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
  • Ability to work with a variety of clients/consumers with special needs.
  • Ability to provide punctual and dependable services to clients/consumers.
  • Ability to obtain a valid drivers license and maintain proper auto insurance.
  • Ability to independently operate a vehicle and travel in a variety of weather conditions on Iowa Home Care business.
  • Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work daily and extended hours as required.
  • Ability to assist other Iowa Home Care staff with other work-related areas.
