Health Information Alliance. is seeking PRN, Remote Pediatric Surgical Clinical Reviewer

Role and Responsibilities:

The Pediatric Surgical Clinical Reviewer’s chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the ACS NSQIP. This is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of all eligible surgeries for the hospital. The Pediatric SCR works closely with the members of the Department of Surgery to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified.

Qualification and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Successfully completed the Pediatric SCR certification exam in the last year.
  • RHIA, RHIT, LPN/LVN, RN, or BSN preferred but not required.
  • Minimum one(1) year experience in hospital surgery department, surgery clinic, clinical research or medical records. Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required.
  • Recent experience (in the last year) as an Pediatric SCR for ACS NSQIP Data abstraction/collection.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.
  • Ability to interact with all members of the surgical team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Computer and Internet experience required – familiarity and comfort with MS Office products is essential for success in this position (Word and Excel- required; PowerPoint and Access- preferred).
  • Database data entry and/or management experience preferred.
  • Basic statistical knowledge preferred.
  • Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.

    Computer literacy
    • Must be comfortable with, but not limited to: Excel, web-browsers, email, electronic health records (non-specific)
    • Must be familiar with various technologies such as, but not limited to: security (e.g., Citrix), data collection/abstraction, encoders, web-based applications
  • Self-maintenance of skillset
    • Maintaining credentials
    • Staying current with abstraction/coding rules, manuals, and guidelines
  • Prior experience in position applying for
  • Motivation; remote work can be team-based, but requires the ability to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and tactfulness to be able to effectively communicate with team members and client contacts

Educational Requirements:

The ideal candidate must possess:
  • A college degree from
    • An accredited nursing program,
    • CAHIIM accredited program, or
    • Other accredited healthcare program
  • Healthcare credential associated with their program of study
    • Other healthcare information related abstraction and coding credentials desirable
