It is a Therapist that is needed but they will need to have a masters' degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling and possess the corresponding State of Michigan licensure.
Crisis Therapists are responsible to provide crisis intervention and intensive case management services to adults with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders who are 18 years of age and older and are at risk for psychiatric hospitalization, those who have already been admitted to inpatient psychiatric facilities and those who have demonstrated a high risk for readmission or repeated use of emergency psychiatric services. Crisis Therapists are responsible to conduct thorough and comprehensive assessments for adults who are at risk for psychiatric admission in order to accurately identify their service needs and preferences. They work to deescalate the immediate crisis, facilitate engagement in treatment and recovery support services, and prevent the need for higher levels of care. Crisis Therapists must maintain an acute awareness of services, therapeutic activities and supports available within and outside of the agency that may be of benefit to individuals and their families. They are responsible to help ensure access to services, benefits and entitlements, monitor and coordinate the delivery of services with other treatment team members, service providers and community organizations. Advocacy efforts include community outreach and transportation assistance as needed.
Crisis Therapists are also responsible to provide screening, assessment and crisis intervention services via telehealth for adult members of the community who experience mental health emergencies. They determine the appropriate level of care and services needed, and the least restrictive setting in which those services can be provided. Crisis Therapists are required to be available via tablet and/or telephone for calls that are referred for screening and intervention by local police departments that have established business agreements with The Guidance Center. They must be available to respond immediately to crisis calls during scheduled on-call hours. Crisis screening services will be available 24 hours each day, including holidays and weekends. Crisis Therapists will share on-call responsibilities during business hours with other ABH team members and will assist with after-hours on-call coverage on a volunteer basis as their individual schedules allow. Regular working hours are Monday thru Thursday 8:30 am to 7 pm and Friday 8:30 to 5 pm. Some evening and/or weekend hours may be required.

Paid holidays include: New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, ½ day for Good Friday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after (Black Friday), Christmas eve and Christmas Day.
- Candidates for the Crisis Therapist position must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling and possess the corresponding State of Michigan licensure. Candidates without a state license can be considered but must obtain state licensure (LLMSW, LLPC, TLLP, LMSW, LPC or LLP) within a 60-day training period beginning on the date of hire. This period may be extended by up to an additional 60 days of training at the sole discretion of the employer. Failure to obtain licensure within the training period will result in the employee being unqualified to perform work functions. Beyond the training period, all state licensure must continually remain active, in effect, and free from disciplinary action.
- Candidates must obtain the Qualified Mental Health Professional and Substance Abuse Treatment Specialist (SATS) credentials within 120 days of hire.
- Candidates must possess a CAADC credential, or be on an active, approved registered MCBAP certification Development Plan within six weeks of hire. Upon hire, the application must be submitted for the Development Plan to MCBAP, with or without the required trainings, within 30 days of hire, or they will not be permitted to provide services. Documentation of required trainings must be submitted with the Development Plan Application or within 90 days of hire. Candidates must have one year of experience (may include time spent in fieldwork or internship) treating or working with adults who have been diagnosed with serious mental illnesses.
Candidates for the Crisis Therapist position must have the ability to engage adults diagnosed with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders, their families, and supporters. They must have expertise in helping clients identify their service needs and preferences, helping them build on their individual strengths, resources and support, and navigate the network of services available at The Guidance Center and in the community. They must have an orientation toward providing community outreach services. Candidates must have the ability to provide trauma-informed care and appropriately handle crisis situations. They must be able to use technology competently, demonstrate effective organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, and work independently. Additional requirements include a nonjudgmental approach that reflects cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs and diverse experiences of adults with mental illness and/or substance use disorders, their families and providers.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record, and obtain a Michigan Chauffeur License within 30 days of employment.
