The Village of Buffalo Grove and its community development department are seeking a full-time Permit Coordinator. The Village of Buffalo Grove is located thirty-three miles northwest of downtown Chicago and twenty miles north of O’Hare International Airport. Neighboring communities include Arlington Heights, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, and Wheeling. Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Community Development Director, this position will be responsible for a variety of administrative duties to assist the Community Development Department with day-to-day operations. This involves effectively coordinating work activities of the front counter staff to provide a high quality of customer service.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This position is responsible for working with Village staff, contractors, residents, and businesses in all areas of building permitting and license processing. Responsibilities of the permit coordinator include, but are not limited to: Oversight of the permit counter and Community Development counter staffEnsuring timely completion of clerical duties related to the departmentCoordinates the receipt, routing, and tracking of all Certificates of OccupanciesAssists in establishing the inspection schedule for each work dayAssists front counter staff with public inquires over the phone and in-person.Disseminates plan review comments or other matters concerning the approval process to the permitee or contractorApproves permits as directedAssists in the performance appraisals for the front counter staff, under the direction of the Deputy Community Development DirectorInputs and process purchase orders and tracking department spendingAssists in special projects, and all other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualified applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED, with a minimum of two to four years’ experience in a similar position is desired or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training will be considered. Experience working with the public in a customer service environment is required. ICC permit technician training and/or certifications preferred. In addition, the successful candidate has strong organizational skills, detail oriented, able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, knowledge of Office 365 and permitting software, and understanding of plats of surveys and blueprints.
