Physician Assistant Job at DMR-Western Region
The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Physician Assistant. Under the supervision of a fully licensed physician, this position provides primary health care of a caseload of individuals in a variety of settings by assuming many of the diagnostic, therapeutic and administrative responsibilities traditionally assumed by a physician.
Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Performs complete histories & physical exams.
- Orders labs, tests, etc.
- Diagnoses and treats common illnesses and trauma, under established protocols.
- Orders routine medication and treatment.
- Works with interdisciplinary team to represent individuals' healthcare needs including meeting attendance as appropriate.
- Utilizes the DSM IV classification, Axis I-V as a basis for defining psychiatric diagnosis in the Dual Diagnosis population.
- Participates in the Psychiatric Assessments of clinically complex developmentally disabled and/or dual diagnosis individuals to maximize the individuals' ability to function in the environment by: (a) assessing medical/clinical status that may impact on behavior and/or treatment modalities (b) recommend diagnostic testing (c) interpret clinical findings (d) provide clinical diagnostic impression and recommendations to the team. Also, administers and scores the AIMS evaluations for individuals on neuroleptics following DDS and national protocols.
- Functions as a member of the Psychotropic Drug Review (PDR) team prescribing medications: (a) attends PDR meetings (b) utilizes holistic assessment process to assess the individual (c) recommend clinical, behavioral and developmental psychotherapeutic intervention techniques (d) participate in the team’s evaluation of treatment modalities.
Please Note:
This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm
Days off: Sunday/Saturday
Flexibility required to meet the needs of the program.
