Responsibilities


Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington is recruiting a Certified Physician Assistant or ARNP to join our Colorectal Surgery team.


The Colon and Rectal Surgery Team is seeking a Certified Physician Assistant or ARNP to serve as a provider with our colon and rectal surgical patients.

  • Supports a team of three board-certified colorectal surgeons and one other PA providing tertiary care through office-based procedures, patient consults, pre and post-op appointments, HRA (High Resolution Anoscopy) and operative assist in the OR.
  • Operative experience ranges from robotics, laparoscopy, anorectal and open surgery.
  • Trained to provide High Resolution Anoscopy, which will allow for strong patient continuity over a patient's lifetime
  • Breadth of patients ranging from conditions like cancer and inflammatory bowel disease to benign conditions like diverticulitis and common anorectal concerns
  • Provide care for a panel of patients, pre and post op patients, and both surgical and non-surgical management of colorectal conditions, including office based procedures
  • Unique opportunity to work with vulnerable populations at risk for cancer including HIV and LGBTQ.
  • Collaborative team that is on the forefront of research and supports several multidisciplinary conferences focused on cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and pelvic health.
  • Four, 10-hour weekday shifts. No call requirement

The provider will have the opportunity and support for program building, leadership development, and to attend key regional and national conferences, monthly city-wide, specialty-specific Journal Club and Tumor Boards.


Team Details

The Colon and Rectal Surgical Team is made up of three surgeons, one PA and one Registered Nurse and is part of the larger General Surgery team, which consists of 19 surgeons and 2 NP's and 1 other PA.


In the broader VMFH system, the colorectal surgical team at Virginia Mason Medical Center spearheads the Center for Colon and Rectal Disorders. This multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to caring for patients with colorectal conditions permeates the culture of care at VMFH, allowing the colorectal surgical team to work closely with experts from multiple disciplines including surgery, gastroenterology, urology, oncology, and radiology.


Qualifications


Nurse Practitioner


  • Washington State Registered Nurse License and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner License are required for this job.
  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers may be required depending on the position, as well as prescriptive authority.
  • Advanced background in nursing; an understanding of anatomy, physiology, histology, and pharmacology; and strong interpersonal and counseling skills.
  • Certification by specialty area as well as work experience in specialty area may be required, depending on the position.


Physician Assistant Certified


  • This position requires Certification as a Physician Assistant with prescriptive authority in the State of Washington.
