Role Summary
GenesisCare is seeking a clinical Medical Physicist to join our team in Bakersfield, CA (fully onsite role). We are expanding our physics practice and are looking for Radiation Oncology physicists to provide physics services for a busy clinic in Bakersfield, California.
The successful candidate will have the chance to help build on a practice utilizing HDR, Cyberknife, Varian C-series and Truebeam LINACs, and LDR brachytherapy technologies using some of the latest industry-leading treatment and calibration equipment, and work with a close-knit team of experienced physicists in the world’s largest Radiation Oncology team. This is a great opportunity for a physicist looking for a dynamic clinical environment with a great support team.
Reporting lines:
As the Physicist you will report directly to the Chief Physicist.
There are currently no direct reports to this role. Reporting lines and direct reports may change from time to time in line with the requirements of the role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Calibrate and maintain therapy units, radiation sources, and other relevant major equipment to sustain efficient and accurate operation.
  • Maintain treatment planning systems, as needed, including regular quality assurance.
  • Oversee and assist with the treatment planning of external beam as well as use of internally implanted radioactive sources. SRS/SBRT program building experience is desired.
  • Assists with development of specialized treatment aids and supervises technologists in the development and fabrication of such aids.
  • Participate in new technology and program development at GenesisCare.
  • Maintain proper records and correspondence pertaining to quality control and quality assurance, calibration, radiation safety and compliance with State and Federal regulations and standards of accrediting bodies.
  • Perform quality assurance checks of patient charts prior to treatment, weekly, and at end of treatment for adequate and accurate documentation and dosage.
  • Assists engineering with maintenance schedules, component replacement, and necessary modifications and calibration for continued safe operation.
  • Assists with planning and participates in supporting programs (i.e., chart rounds and M&M review) to ensure effective and safe use of radiation and radionuclides in human beings by physician specialists.
  • Support NRG protocol implementation and maintenance.
  • Cooperates in compliance with OSHA regulations relating to hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Keeps abreast of new scientific methods and technological developments in radiation therapy.
Qualification requirements:
  • PhD, DMP, or master’s degree in Medical Physics
  • Certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR), the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), or Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM)
  • Board eligible candidates will be considered. Must have passed Part II ABR
Experience:
  • Specific experience with the following equipment in the region:Aria/Eclipse with Truebeams and C-Series
  • Nucletron Microselectron with Oncentra treatment planning system
  • Cyberknife
The salary range for California residents is $164k - $245k for MS candidates, and $197k - $295k for PhD candidates. Along with the salary, we offer a comprehensive health, wellness, and time off benefits package, 401k with company match and immediate vesting, employee referral program, and other benefits. This beautiful area provides ample opportunity for boating, water skiing, fishing, picnicking and hiking.

Bakersfield has a unique place in music history and culture.
