Universal Avionics seeks an experienced pilot training professional to join our team as a Pilot Instructor / Instructional Designer. In this role, you will utilize your theoretical and practical flying knowledge to deliver exceptional customer support by leading the development and delivery of product-focused curriculum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform ground instruction in person and remotely.
  • Apply theoretical and practical knowledge of flying to aid learning and answer questions.
  • Maintain the classroom environment and equipment.
  • Support the instructional design process.
  • Lead in developing and organizing web-based training content, interactive courseware, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • Plan and develop training programs for the classroom.
  • Improve curriculum and training processes by providing continual feedback.
  • Participate in defining the requirements, testing, and improving training software tools and devices.
  • Participate in developing and demonstrating procedural training scenarios using software tools and devices.
  • Keep abreast of applicable aviation industry regulations and training industry trends.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to performing the essential duties and responsibilities, equivalent experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced degree in instructional design, education, or a related field is preferred.
  • 500 hours combined of pilot or certified flight instructor experience is required.
  • Two or more years of experience instructing professional pilots is preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience planning and developing complex curricula is preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience operating advanced avionics is preferred.
  • Must be proficient in the use of classroom computer equipment.
  • Experience with instructional design tools like Storyline or Captivate preferred.
  • Experience with video editing software like Camtasia or Premier preferred.
  • Experience navigating the FAA Letter of Authorization process is desired.
  • Experience with the operation of NextGen Data Link technology is desired.
  • Experience with Urban Air Mobility is desired.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including computer-aided instruction software, and the ability to use classroom computer equipment in a professional learning environment.
Language Skills
Strong command of aviation-specific technical vocabulary with the ability to effectively communicate in a diverse classroom. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and legal documents. Ability to respond to common and/or complex inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. Ability to write training material for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret various technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
