JNE Consulting is currently looking for a Piping/Mechanical Department Manager for our Pittsburgh, PA location.
With a focus on piping systems , the department manager will exhibit proven experience in engineering designs, from conceptual and feasibility stages through to detailed engineering for projects of all sizes within the Heavy Industrial sector. The department manager will continue to foster relationships with current clients, build/find new clients, and push for opportunities to continue growing JNE’s client base.
Duties and Responsibilities
Resource and People Management
Plan/forecast and assign resources for executing multiple projects, proposals and other activities within the department
Ensure information and communication flow is effective and follows established processes
Follow all health and safety / personal protective equipment policies, regulations, and legislation
Conduct internal discipline group meetings to ensure the progress of projects is in accordance to schedule, allotted resource hours and budgeted costs
Perform employee performance reviews. Set talent management goals and professional development goals for the department
Collaborate with the General Manager and other department managers in setting the vision and direction of the piping department
Ability to travel to local and regional clients, as required
Project Workload Management
Ensure the successful execution of engineering services on all projects
Develop and review engineering estimates for proposals and contribute to the overall proposal development
Develop the engineering schedule and project labor resource requirements in cooperation with the Project Manager and General Manager
Review project spend plans as it relates to project execution, resource requirements and schedule, for the department
Actively engage in the promotion of the company and creation of new business opportunities
Technical Work
Perform design modifications to existing industrial systems
Develop flow sheets, P&IDs and design layout of facilities
Design/approve drawings and 3D models
Design/approve equipment, piping components and specifications
Guide CAD designers in the preparation of drawings and provide technical expertise as required
Supervise work assigned to Engineers and Designers
Conduct peer reviews of engineering calculations, drawings and specifications within the department
Recommend training and process improvements to improve the efficiency of the department
Education and Experience
PA or other State PE required
15+ years engineering experience required
At least 5 years previous managerial experience in related field required
Basic knowledge of 3D CAD technology
Exposure and familiarity with software packages including Caesar II, Pipe-Flo, and AFT Fathom
Excellent knowledge of related discipline codes such as ASME, NFPA, API, etc.
