POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for applying pesticides and fertilizer in support of the Tree Care Department, as well as maintaining tree care related spraying and fertilizing tasks on Landscape Maintenance (LM) accounts. This is a position that includes the responsibility of supervising personnel, when needed and setting a positive example of behavior, attitude and work ethic. The position requires knowledge in the safe handling and application of pesticides in accordance with the laws and regulations of the State of California.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To successfully fulfill this job position, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactory. • Organize, schedule and perform specific on-site job tasks efficiently.
• Maintain contact with existing LM accounts regarding tree care related spraying and fertilizing.
• Target and acquire new work from clients currently not using our PHC service.
• Maintain efficient working relationship with Managers in regards to scheduling and performing all new requests.
• Works well with others in a team environment and is helpful and courteous to customers.
• Accurately identify the target pest, calibrate equipment and apply pesticides according to recommended label rates.
• Completes Company spray reports daily for accuracy and submits with weekly payroll.
• Completes hours sheets, job billing sheets and other field reports daily and submits them weekly as required.
• Orders and keeps an inventory of all necessary materials. This should be done on a monthly basis.
• Ensures all invoices and charges are coded with proper job numbers and descriptions. Timely and accurate record keeping is absolutely essential.
• Performs regular equipment maintenance on assigned power equipment and schedule regular preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle as recommended by the Shop Manager. Ensures equipment and tools are properly used, maintained, stored and secured against theft, reporting any misuse, abuse or injury to immediate supervisor.
• Follows and enforces all safety practices as listed in the employee manual and is recommended by the equipment and product manufacturer.
• Must display the foresight necessary to predict the need for ""extra manpower"" during the busy season.
• Must display the flexibility and team mentality to be available for Tree Surgery work if needed.
• Uses material that is recommended by Department Manager.
• Travel and overnight stay will be required in serving our outlying areas all expenses and arrangements will need to be approved by the TC Department Manager prior to scheduling.
• Possess and maintains a company planner.
• Complies with all established company policies and procedures.
• Will be provided through the course of work, confidential and proprietary information. In order to ensure the protection of this information, will be required to agree and sign a nondisclosure, noncompetition agreement.
• Works 5 consecutive 8-hour days during assigned business hours weather permitting, and is available to work overtime if requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT OF THIS POSITION'S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ability to lift and carry, push and pull 20-50 pounds of material and equipment daily.
• Ability to start and use all power equipment without aid from others.
• Ability to walk, stand, squat and kneel repetitively on a daily basis.
• Makes frequent repetitive movements with the left and right hand, wrist, ankle and knee.
• Ability to twist, turn, and bend the trunk of the body frequently.
• Ability to lift and carry on back a 40 pound backpack sprayer

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs similar job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Possess and utilize good interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees and managers.
• Must be able to read and write English.
• Must possess a valid California Drivers License with a driving record acceptable to the company's insurance carrier.
• Must maintain Qualified Applicator License through in-house CEU's as well as attend one seminar per year on Company time as may be required.
• Possess and maintain Certified Arborist License for tree and disease identification or a minimum of one year practical experience in the Tree Care Field related to Plant Health Care.

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING THIS POSITION'S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Outdoor physical labor in temperatures ranging from cold 20 degrees to heat in excess of 100 degrees and exposure to rain.
• Flexibility in hours of operation is required due to the nature of the work. Spraying around commercial sites usually requires working at night, as well as occasional weekends.
• Exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, noise and pollutants to the Tree Care industry (fertilizer, pesticide, etc.)
• Machinery/equipment noise, traffic and hazards related to the Tree Care industry in a commercial environment.
