POSITION OVERVIEW

The part-time police officer serves as law enforcement at all of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden locations. The incumbent conducts investigations of incidents reported on the shift, interacts with the church and community, and provides the church community with safety information as needed.

The police officer realizes that the community’s perception of the diligence and cordiality, the way they serve the community and direct the flow of traffic, directly impacts the image of FBCG in the community. The incumbent must be prepared to regularly work on Tuesdays, Fridays and/or Sundays, and provide support to special events. They must be flexible to adapt to the needs of the ministry. This position reports to the director of safety and security.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Full performance level of law enforcement work.
• Serve as goodwill ambassadors to the community on behalf of FBCG.
• Provide personal protection and congregation security.
• Fulfill the Pastor’s commitment that FBCG would be a good neighbor to the surrounding communities.
• Help secure the offering.
• Ensure security of funds by transporting funds for deposit.
• Direct traffic and assists with traffic and crowd control.
• Provide support in the event of an emergency during a worship service or event.
• Provide support related to events and activities of the ministry.
• Fingerprint ministry volunteers during quarterly fingerprinting sessions and as needed.
• After hours parking lot monitoring as needed by the church.
• Provide escort service for special events and special guests.
• Monitor police radio and radio provided by FBCG.
• Attend roll call and/or meetings as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor and the assigned supervisory structure.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a Servant's Heart, and be able to submit to authorities as defined by the Pastor.
• High School or equivalent education.
• One year minimum experience in Law Enforcement, and authorized to work part-time by their respective law enforcement agency.
• Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license. Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
• Currently employed at an authorized Maryland Police Department or have been out for no more than three years.
• Successfully complete a background investigation.
• Must be able to adhere to the FBCG Security Operations Policy for Notification/Standard of Conduct

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Officers are require to be prepared at all times and to fulfill their duties as assigned. In order to fulfill the assignment(s), the following equipment is required:

Uniformed Officers

• Cruiser *
• Traffic vest
• Whistle
• Gun belt
• Issued firearm and/or approved off duty firearm
• Issued police uniform and/or approved modified uniform by your agency
• Police radio
• Flashlight

Plain Clothes Officers/Security

• Issued firearm and/or approved off duty firearm
• Church radio and earpiece
• Police armband
• Police credentials (badge and ID)
• Handcuffs

All officers will at all times adhere to their agency’s General Orders Manual and/or policies and procedures while working secondary employment at First Baptist Church of Glenarden.
