Political Giving Officer
The Political Giving Officer is responsible for inspiring, broadening and deepening the support of individual and corporate donors to the advocacy and public policy efforts of Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL), and the political fundraising of Planned Parenthood Illinois Action (PPIA), Planned Parenthood Illinois Action Political Action Committee (PPIA PAC), Planned Parenthood Illinois Action IE Political Action Committee (PPIA IE PAC), and Planned Parenthood Illinois Votes (PPI Votes). The Officer will build a portfolio and execute the strategy and management of their portfolio of prospects and donors with the responsibility of maximizing C4 and PAC funds raised annually. The Officer is an articulate spokesperson for our advocacy and political programs and priorities in the philanthropic community. This position reports to the Director of Development.
Essential functions:
1. Meet or exceed PPIA, PPIA PAC, PPIA IE PAC, and PPI Votes annual goals for development revenue from individual donors.
2. Establish long-term goals and annual objectives for individual giving and corporate giving C4 and PAC portfolios in collaboration with the Director of Development and Director of Institutional Giving. Conduct regular and ongoing portfolio analysis, communicate outcomes and challenges, suggest portfolio adjustments as needed, and project results as needed for reports and planning.
3. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of individual and corporate prospects and donors for C4 and PAC gifts. Ensure that the assigned portfolio is managed with the highest professional and ethical standards.
4. Ensure that individual and corporate C4 and PAC donors receive appropriate, on-target, and timely information and updates needed for cultivation and solicitation. As needed, prepare the strategy for such communications and participate in crafting timelines, outlines, drafts, budgets, and final products.
5. Maintain timely and accurate records on individual and corporate C4 and PAC donors, as well as potential donors to support ongoing activity and future fundraising—including plans, tracking, and reporting.
6. Establish a strong pipeline for the C4 and PAC portfolios by implementing an effective system for identifying, qualifying, and cultivating individuals and corporations with interest and capacity.
7. Collaborate with development and public policy staff members on planning and implementing strategic solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship activities, including PAC donor email solicitation campaigns, PPIA and PAC donor events (working with event volunteer leadership, securing sponsorships, and writing staff and volunteer talking points), and donor communications.
8. Support the President and CEO and gift officers in C4 and PAC fundraising activities, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and execution.
9. Work with fundraising volunteers to increase their involvement and success in the solicitation process. Utilize volunteer’s networks to incorporate new prospects into the individual and corporate giving C4 and PAC’s pipelines.
10. In collaboration with the Director of Development, work to sustain, expand, and coordinate the role of the PPIA Board of Directors in development activities and foster a culture of philanthropy.
11. Coordinate administrative details associated with the PPIA Board of Directors’ participation in fundraising activities, including coordinating annual board commitment meetings, soliciting board members for annual support, and supporting board members in peer-to-peer solicitations.
12. In collaboration with the Public Policy team, Finance team, and the Development team, ensure timely and accurate reporting of all gifts received by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action PAC, Planned Parenthood Illinois Action IE PAC, and Planned Parenthood Illinois Votes to the Illinois State Board of Elections and Federal Board of Elections. Understand campaign finance laws at the state and federal level and contribution limits for the various entities.
13. Through these activities demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to PPIL core values of access, activism, care, confidentiality, diversity, excellence, integrity, respect, self-determination, and stewardship; practice these values in relations with internal and external customers.
Other functions:
1. Support collaborative fundraising efforts with Planned Parenthood Federation of America and other Planned Parenthood affiliates as needed.
2. In collaboration with public policy team, work with Future of Choice members to expand their outreach and networks and fundraise for PPIA and political events.
3. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
Experience: Three plus years of demonstrated success in raising C4 and PAC gifts.
Prior experience with fundraising software. Knowledge of Sales Force, Blackbaud Raisers Edge and CRM preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Power Point).
Professional qualities: Demonstrated record of meeting professional goals and guiding staff to meet team goals. Interest in reproductive health, education, and rights and ability to understand and explain PPIL programs and funding priorities to current and potential individual donors. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships with donors and secure gifts. Strong oral and written communications skills. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others (management, trustees, faculty and staff) to accomplish goals. Aptitude for analysis, interpretation, and translation of information. Strong supervisory experience. Creativity and experience in the development of gift strategies, programs, and solicitation materials that will inspire donors. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Flexibleenough to handle multiple projects in a fast paced, understaffed environment. Curious and thoughtful approach to work characterized by a desire to solve problems and continuously improve quality of work. Discretion in handling confidential information and materials.
