Job Description
Overview
Contribute to PNNL’s goals in uncertainty quantification for complex systems as part of the Laboratory’s Computational Mathematics Group of the Advanced Computing, Mathematics, and Data Division (ACMDD). As a postdoctoral researcher, you’ll join a talented, diverse team to make a scientific impact in predicting and controlling the behavior of complex engineered and natural systems using advanced scientific machine learning and uncertainty quantification methods, large-scale data analysis, and mesoscale and multiscale modeling techniques. Senior Scientists will mentor you in the Computational Mathematics Group as you develop your expertise in scientific machine learning, uncertainty quantification, and stochastic ordinary and partial differential equations.

Responsibilities
The tasks that you will be performing are:
- Develop data- and physics-driven computational tools for parameter estimation and uncertainty quantification in complex systems governed by partial differential equations.
- Implement your algorithms using state-of-the-art high-performance computing and machine learning frameworks.
- Interact, communicate, and solve problems with a diverse team of applied mathematics, computational science, and experimental research staff within the ACMDD group and across PNNL.
- Publish your results in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals.
- Present your research at technical conferences and project and program review meetings.
- Participate in the development of research proposals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and using methods for uncertainty quantification and Bayesian inference for high-dimensional problems.
- Experience using machine learning methods, including but not limited to Gaussian Processes and Deep Neural Networks.
- Experience using high-performance computing and machine learning frameworks.
- Familiarity with model reduction methods and optimization algorithms.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills.
