JOB SUMMARY

POET Design & Construction (PDC) supports the mission by providing high quality, timely and cost-conscious engineering, procurement and construction services. We provide this support through value-added design and technology innovation from a knowledgeable, hard-working staff. We work closely as a multi-disciplinary team, in a dynamic, fast-paced, ever-changing environment delivering the best product in the industry.

The Process Automation Engineer is responsible for supporting, design, implementation, and specification of industrial plant automation systems and associated tasks. The Process Automation Engineer works under the close guidance of Senior Engineers to complete assignments and develop knowledge and skills. The Process Automation Engineer has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within their field.

DURING A TYPICAL DAY (IF THERE IS ONE)…

  • Designs detailed control loops and strategies involving system design, configuration, testing, cutover, and start-up.
  • Work with customers and other engineering disciplines to design and implement detailed control strategies.
  • Optimize and improve current control strategies at multiple existing sites.
  • Adhere to POET standards for DCS hardware and configuration design while ensuring any applicable safety and regulatory standards are met.
  • Configure Emerson Delta V control systems, including:System and software design

Programming and configuration
Sequence and interlock logic
Graphic configuration
Database development
Documentation

  • Troubleshoot/debug software and hardware issues (after-hours work may be necessary depending on the situation).
  • Support onsite commissioning activities including hardware installation and checkout, wiring checkout and valve and instrumentation checkout and calibration.
  • Prepare proposals, write specifications and coordinate installation of equipment, materials, and systems.
  • Meet all safety, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Assist in new technology research and testing to improve processes.
  • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Bachelors of Science degree is required in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Heavy process / industrial automation experience requirements:Process Automation Engineer I: No experience required

Process Automation Engineer II: 4 or more years of overall experience with 3 or more years of experience in a related industry.
Process Automation Engineer III: 8 or more years of overall experience with 6 or more years of experience in a related industry.
Senior Process Automation Engineer: 12 or more years of overall experience with 10 or more years of experience in a related industry.

  • Knowledge and experience in DCS/Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) controls, networks (Wireless, Ethernet, Devicenet, Profibus, and AS-Interface), and various communication platforms.
  • Knowledge and experience in various programming, script languages, and Open Platform Communication (OPC).
  • Knowledge and experience in reading electrical schematics and troubleshooting simple electrical circuits.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal customers, premier partners and fellow team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high energy environment.
  • Motivated to learn and create innovative and efficient control strategies.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional travel will be necessary to visit the bioprocessing facilities, perform system upgrades and conduct site visits. At times overnight travel may be necessary.
  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
  • Specific physical requirements may include:Sitting for approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.

Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds or less.
Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds.
Walking of two (2) or more miles per day.
Working at heights, in confined spaces, and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
Standing for extended periods of time.
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
