I. BASIC FUNCTION

Organize and manage purchasing for Canal Barge Company – North.

II. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Manage daily purchasing activities, supervising staff, and allocating tasks.
  • Manage supplier relations and negotiating contracts, prices, timelines, etc.
  • Maintain the supplier database, purchase records, and related documentation.
  • Communicate with the Dispatch Department to coordinate delivery of supplies to vessels, both live on and fleet.
  • Coordinate with inventory control with the management teams to determine and manage inventory needs through weekly cycle counting.
  • Ensure that all procured items meet the required quality standards and specifications.
  • Work in conjunction with Canal Barge Procurement and Vessels to provide stores and supplies, as needed.
  • Supervise Procurement staff and delegate responsibilities as required.
  • Accept and verify parcel deliveries at the warehouse.
  • Operate company vehicles to transport personnel to and from medical visits, bus and train stations, boats, or other required destinations.
  • Arrange for service, maintenance, and cleanliness of all Illinois Marine Towing company vehicles.
  • Work to improve purchasing systems and processes.
  • Train new employees in the purchasing process and use of the purchasing system.

IV. RELATIONSHIP

The Procurement Manager reports directly to the General Manager.

V. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The Procurement Supervisor position requires frequent lifting/carrying objects weighing 25 lbs. minimum, standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, and stooping as required.

VI. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of associate degree or equivalent work experience, required.
  • 3-5 years’ relevant experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License, CDL Class B preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, Procurify, TowWorks, and Sinex.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong planning and organization skills
