The Production Engineer oversees the operation of a production area in the Ingevity Covington Carbon Plant. This individual is responsible for leading the safe and successful operation of their area in support of the plant production goals. The engineer will have leadership responsibilities to maintain the operating budget, continually improve the safety and efficiency of their production area and lead their team towards achieving production performance goals. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer looking to advance their operations career taking on increased responsibility in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
How you will impact Ingevity:
  • You will lead operators and teams to reach key performance metrics for your production area
  • Provide safety leadership for your area including remedying problems quickly and performing routine safety inspections
  • Lead operator training for technical and process responsibilities
  • Maintain effective and updated operating procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements of the Quality Management Systems for the area.
  • Manage the operating budget for the area
  • Work with Maintenance to coordinate preventative and emergency maintenance.
  • Provide backup for the Area Supervisor
  • Work with the Reliability Team to reduce unplanned downtime
  • Investigate process improvements for the area to improve safety and productivity
  • Determine needed capital improvements and work with Engineering to complete
  • Assist the operator(s) with troubleshooting (quality, mechanical, process, etc.)
  • Perform quality reviews to drive continual improvement
  • Review process trends, quality data, and environmental data
  • Routinely observe employee performance in the area for compliance with safety and procedural requirements
What You Need to Succeed:
  • A bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or related Engineering/STEM discipline
  • 2+ years of experience supporting engineering and/or manufacturing processes in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience and/or 5+ years of experience in manufacturing is preferred but not required
  • Aptitude for problem solving and effective decision making
  • Experience in training and/or leading others
  • Effective at leading individuals and teams toward resolution of issues
  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and utilize problem solving concepts, tools and technologies
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and electronically.
  • Knowledge of chemical processes, equipment, and manufacturing technologies including mechanical conveying, piping systems, pumps, and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of maintenance processes including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations and principles
