SUMMARY: Directs, coordinates, supervises and manages the business unit’s operational aspects of manufacturing including safety, labor management, shipping and warehouse processes, and quality. Responsible for ensuring production goals are met and standard processes are in place. Leads with an eye toward continuous improvement. Promotes employee engagement and company’s culture guided by Airlite Plastics’ values.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively structures, develops, implements and manages the main goals of the business unit’s operation, including safety, quality, material usage, scrap efficiency, labor and machine/equipment utilization. Leads the plant with the parameters and priorities of the assigned business unit to support business goals and objectives.
  • Plans,organizes and manages labor needs for all operational areas. Assesses labor needs against availability and coordinates activities with support teams to maintain appropriate staffing level.
  • Identifies resources needed and assigns individuals responsibilities to complete tasks.
  • Communicates clear, measurable, and informative individual performance objectives to the operational leadership team.
  • Implements changes in course for correction of operational performance or improvement. Evaluates the impact of alternative operational options including the impact on systems and budget.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, schedules, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance; rewards and corrects employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements training programs for operational employees and leadership. Develops improvement plans, initiates coaching and support activities to achieve employee development.
  • Provides coaching and feedback to support leadership and operational staff through positive reinforcement and problem solving.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, standards of conduct and safety standards of conduct, to include corrective action consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a main user and operator of the company’s inventory software system for production, inventory management, equipment real time monitoring, warehouse inventory control, physical count auditing as determined necessary, etc.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and to prevent operational delays.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with company managers, supervisors, technicians and mechanics to discuss and repair secondary/primary equipment, safety, scrap, labor costs, human capital and maintenance.
  • Develops or revises standard operational work practices and initiates inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Participates in the start-up and testing of new raw materials and equipment.
  • Uses operational tools and reports to maintain manufacturing standards and production targets and expectations.
  • Coordinates maintenance repair and PM activities to coincide with production demand and priorities.
  • Sets and communicates short and long range objectives to direct reports and all technical support positions in the business unit.
  • Communicates factual, accurate and timely information with subordinates, production leadership and other support groups/individuals.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.Establishes priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Resolves employee complaints or submits unsettled complaints through the proper processes.
  • Compiles, stores and retrieves production data to be used to improve business unit operations.
  • Assists with the development of annual budgets for the business unit. Controls expenditures, labor overtime and costs within limitations of the budget.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related plant supervisory/managerial experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
