LEGALLY BLIND SEWING OPERATOR

SUMMARY:

Responsible for the flow of raw and finished materials to meet production standards and schedules, and assures all work is done in a safe and in a quality manner. Responsibilities include sewing pre-cut pieces of material together, zippers, and piping using various industrial sewing machines to create apparel per contract specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned:

1. Participates in the sewing process in the assigned area to ensure that all work is completed in accordance with quality standards, delivery schedules and safety requirements:

1.1. working closely with Quality Assurance, Training Specialist, and the Sewing Machine Mechanic for assigned production steps to produce material/product as instructed for contracts;

1.2. maintains quality standards as outlined in contracts associated with assigned area of responsibility;

1.3. Follows work procedures to meet production schedule,

1.4. Maintains a safe and efficient layout in the area of sewing process assigned to, and;

1.5. Notifies appropriate supervisor of all production and manufacturing waste.

2. Manages the flow, as it relates to the assigned area, of raw materials and finished goods:

2.1. sews material as specified using the appropriate industrial sewing

machine;

2.2. notifies supervisor of need for work supplies and materials to provide for uninterrupted productivity; and

2.3. Shifts from one job to another as needed.

2.4. Maintains work schedule set at hire date.

2.5. Cleans assigned area at end of day

3. Assists in the production process in a manner consistent with the Agency's mission:

3.1. Adheres to policies and procedures as communicated by the agency

3.2. Maintains open communications with management and supervisors to ensure that accurate information is conveyed in a timely manner.

4. Contributes to the effectiveness of the agency and the Department by performing all other duties as

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Industrial sewing experience preferred.

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be reasonably mobile. The employee must have the use of hands and arms and be able to work in a variety of situations, some of which require sitting, standing, and the movement of material down a production rail.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, depending on job assignment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently work near moving mechanical parts or be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
