DESCRIPTION

Goals include the prevention of underage drinking and drug use, increased parental skills, family empowerment, and youth development. Work on environmental approaches to reduce youth social access to alcohol and drugs in the South County area, and work with media. Work closely with Law enforcement, City Councils, State Alcohol and Beverage Control, and local Schools. Teach life skills curriculum to parents. Facilitate grassroots parent advocacy group. Work with high school youth groups on self-empowerment skills and influencing alcohol and drugs among youth.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with teens and community advocacy; ability to communicate effectively and build bridges in the community. Familiarity with the South County communities.

Principle Responsibilities:

The following responsibilities represent the essential functions of the position. An employee in this classification is responsible for carrying out the following functions:

  • Acts as a resource for alcohol and drug addiction information, treatment, education, and/or prevention, program development, and community activities, acts as a liaison between program services and the community.
  • Assures good communications with persons served, funding sources, staff, management, and community.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of program goals. Assures compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Conducts presentations in the Community.
  • Mentors youth in the STEPS program, paid staff, and volunteers.
  • Participates in Coalitions
  • Assures compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Assures compliance with all client confidentiality requirements.
  • May perform special projects or other duties as assigned to assure the efficiency of the program.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in MS Word
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to document, communicate verbally and in writing, and in a culturally competent and sensitive manner.
  • Knowledge of alcohol and drug addiction treatment, education or prevention services

Environmental Conditions:

Constant movement around service area, and travel into the community. Time spent sitting, using a computer station, periods of intense concentration, using the telephone, paperwork. Time spent in meetings, travel to various work site locations throughout the County. Exposure to outdoor weather and environmental conditions.


NOTE: Employees will be required to be double vaccinated with a booster for COVID-19, fingerprinted, and will be subject to clearance by the Department of Justice.
