The Adult Day Care/Family Respite Program which offers services to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory disorder, is a program of Commonpoint Queens, a multipurpose social service agency. Our mission is to sustain and enhance the quality of family and individual life for all members of our community, regardless of religion, ethnic or cultural background, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual preference, age, or disability, within a pervasive and inclusive environment that facilitates individual growth, meets individual needs and builds community. We accomplish this mission through a broad range of social, educational, cultural and recreational services and programs that reach community members of all ages and backgrounds.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• 
  Functions as part of a team providing day care for older adults with moderate to advanced

memory loss

• Plans and facilitates daily social and recreational activities designed to enhance ones feelings of self-worth, and helps sustain cognitive and physical functioning
• Assists with the lunch program, arrival and departure of clients
• Participates in program development and planning of special events
• Facilitates all aspects of the program in the absence of the Program Director
• Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

• 
  High School diploma or GED equivalent required; some college education preferred

• 
  Sensitivity to the needs of older adults with significant memory loss

• 
  Experience working with a geriatric population

• 
  Bilingual English/Spanish helpful but not required

• 
  Basic computer skills including the use of g-mail and the internet; knowledge of how to use zoom technology would be helpful

• 
  An interest in facilitating art, music or creative arts programs for older adults would be welcomed.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• 
  Proof of vaccination against the COVID-19 virus is required
• Ability to stand for more than one hour at a time

  Schedule: Monday through Friday, 30 hours; special events may require weekend hours

  This is a Union position

  Salary: $21.63 per hour
