Purpose

The Avangrid Renewables Program Manager – Environmental Controls will report to the Director, Site Construction. The position will be accountable for project environmental and permitting compliance during detailed design and construction across the portfolio in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. This position will also support and interact with Development, Engineering and Operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate a team of environmental and stakeholder professionals to ensure contractor compliance with its obligations across the company portfolio of projects (working remote or at project sites)
  • Develop and execute strategies for monitoring contractor permitting obligations, permit compliance and stakeholder engagement from post-FID though transition to operations
  • Develop and execute contracting strategies for Permitting and Stakeholder Engagement during Execute phase to ensure adequate resources for projects
  • Identify and execute portfolio risk reduction strategies with development teams and operational customer for permitting and stakeholder issues
  • Provides regular input to Sr. Management on permit compliance and stakeholder engagement processes effectiveness across the portfolio
  • Conduct reviews of ongoing projects to ensure adequate resources and budgets
  • Develop process for interface with the EPC contractors to ensure permitting obligations are adequately considered through the course of detailed engineering design and construction on every project
  • Oversee permitting efforts for renewals and modifications during detailed design and construction for EPC contractor changes
  • Represent Avangrid with landowners, local and state officials, and other stakeholders when necessary
  • Develop program and procedures to align Avangrid permitting and stakeholder management with Finance/Lender ESG requirements
  • Support Project Financing team with compilation of materials for data room for lender due diligence related to environmental, regulatory, and stakeholder management
  • Develop stakeholder engagement process for consistent and successful management across projects

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or related study.
  • 10 years’ experience in permitting and construction of electric generation projects.
  • Proven delivery track record of managing multiple large-scale development projects
  • Experience within project/development management environment, ideally in commercially focused renewables business with onshore development experience.
  • Technical and commercial awareness of large-scale energy and/or engineering projects
  • Sound relationship management skills, creating and managing expectations
  • Excellent oral and written Communication skills
  • Attuned proactive planning skills – can look forward and see issues and deal with these
  • Innovation and creative thinking
  • Proven ability to lead teams and work in a team environment
  • Proactive people manager and motivator
  • Ability to collaborate and develop strong working relationships with partner companies
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and within a highly pressured environment
  • Ability to travel >50%
