Position Summary

The Program Navigator supports students and program initiatives for Associate degrees and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees in accordance with divisional and program guidelines. The Program Navigator provides educational support and technical job readiness support to current students. This position is under the supervision of the Dean of the IBIT Division, under general direction of the Dean, and in collaboration with the Assistant Dean/Program Chair(s),

The Program Navigator essential duties include maintaining professional social media accounts, tracking student job data, outreaching to marginalized communities, and organizing events such as tech-related summer camps. This position is also responsible for tracking Cybersecurity, Information Technology (IT), and other related legislation. The candidate will be expected to act as an intermediary between legislators and the Program Chair(s) in an effort to increase enrollments, retention and student success in an environment that upholds diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

This is a temporary 3-year project position and may transition from temporary to permanent, pending funding availability.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Position Salary Range: $53,827/year - $75,401/year

The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $59,221 based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position may be eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act; salaries below the WA State Salary Threshold is eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department

The Institute for Business and Information Technology (IBIT) encompasses both Instructional and Professional/Technical degree and certificate options crossing multiple program areas. IBIT serves a diverse student population which has wide-ranging interests focusing on academic preparation to career progression, and encompassing high-school students to adult learners with a wide range of student abilities from at-risk to advanced, along with sometimes shortened cycles of impact due to completion of certificates or the securing of employment during the program. This places additional demands and pressures on faculty in Professional/Technical programs while also adding significant value to students by way of opportunity creation in challenging economic times.

Essential Functions

Student Success

Supports various student education needs to improve job readiness.
Assists our diverse students with locating campus educational resources, relationship building, and helping students navigate obstacles and systemic inequities.
Connect students with internship opportunities, help students with technical resumes, and coordinate with stakeholders to facilitate experiential learning opportunities.
Represents a commitment to inclusion for marginalized students and provides support where necessary.
Outreach/Tracking

Uses social media such as LinkedIn to promote the programs, connect with students and employers, and follow student progress beyond graduation. Connects with high schools, colleges and universities in an effort to form articulation agreements or other mutually beneficial programs.
Organizes and manages youth summer camps.
Management & Operations

Conducts research and analyzes data to identify program needs.
Tracks legislative issues and develops or coordinates changes in cooperation with legislators.
Manages student lab technicians/work study.
Administrative Support

Assists Program Chairs, Faculty, and Staff in the preparation of complex comprehensive plans, summaries, recommendations, progress or special reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
Demonstrate cultural competence in the workplace and education to foster a culture of inclusion and fairness (including knowledge of historically marginalized groups).
Experience working with diverse colleagues and/or students from multiple cultural backgrounds and abilities in a collaborative and inclusive environment
Experience managing people in a project-based capacity
Experience in one or more of the following: networking, organizing work flow, implementing policies and procedures
Experience with two or more: Microsoft Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Web tools
Prepared to work independently, and achieve successful results with minimal oversight
Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills using language that is appropriate to the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the audience
Able to build constructive relationships with students and co-workers characterized by a respect and appreciation for diversity
Able to recognize opportunities for creative problem solving
Able to demonstrate prioritization and effective project management skills over several projects through completion
Flexibility of schedule and willingness to work select evenings and/or weekends

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in higher education
Knowledge of any aspect of Business, IT or IT Industry
Experience in marketing, recruiting and/or promotion
Experience with navigating the legislative process
Experience evaluating and assessing data
Experience guiding persons in professional/technical programs, resume building, interviewing, and job search
