Or client is actively seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join their Administration Division in Owings Mills, MD. This position will support Accounting, Administration and Project Management with a broad focus on all aspects of project accounting and detailed focus on specific, key projects. The position has a strong focus on project budgeting, earned value, project cash flow, project sales tax and reporting. We seek a candidate who is highly motivated, collaborates well with others and wants to build, own and be recognized for creating a role with significant organizational impact.

This role is 100% in-office in Owings Mills, Maryland (NO WORK FROM HOME OPTION)

Responsibilities:
  • Project Accounting:
    • Coordinate / Review project setup to confirm budget, nexus, sales tax disposition, and markup/costing methodology
    • Prepare engineering and construction project management reports, designed to track budget, spend, purchasing, billing and trend forecast
    • Consult with Project Managers and Division Managers on project performance developing ad hoc reports / information on an as required basis
    • Provide managers and purchasing with project specific sales tax guidance
    • Perform project based tax apportionments
    • Support project based insurance renewals with analysis and reporting
    • Review project database regularly, identifying active projects with overrun trends, aging unbilled cost, revenue recognition, and projection of required reserves
    • Review project database regularly, identifying completed projects with unbilled cost, unbilled fixed price balances
    • Perform final project disposition, closeout, and budget apportionments
    • Build out, master, document processes and own this function
    • Proactively recommend best practices and process improvements
  • Administration:
    • Support Administration and Executive Management, providing project financial and tax details for corporate reporting executive oversight
    • Support purchasing and billing teams as requested, providing project specifics and data
  • Project Management:
    • Support Engineering and Construction Managers with regular and ad hoc reports
    • Meet with managers as required to understand general and specific project reporting requirements
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience performing project accounting
  • Bachelor's or Associates Degree in Accounting, Business, or applicable field of study is preferred, but not required
  • Experienced with project budget and spend reporting and analysis, purchasing, sales tax, and billing, custom report design and project management support
  • Experience with project accounting within the engineering and/or construction industry
  • Effectively interface with broad range of engineers, construction, management, and admin staff
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), internet and phone research
  • Able and willing to learn many aspects of medium sized company accounting functions
  • Ideal candidate is experienced, self-motivated, organized, detail oriented and desires to build out and own these developing critical corporate functions
