The Head Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food listed on the daily menus. In addition, the Head Cook forcasts, orders products, rotates stock and approves deliveries. the Head Cook monitors and records food temperatures and ensures that cafeteria follow all sanitation and health regulations. The person will be trained to obtain a ServSafe certification.

Food Preparation:

• Prepare food by utilizing kitchen tools to cut, slice, chop, mix, and cook meals. Utilize recipes as provided by the Food Service Director
• Properly use and store food
• Properly use and maintain cafeteria equipment
• Communicate equipment failure to the Food Service Director regularly

Food Service:

• Order, accept, and restock inventory
• Set up and close down serving line. Serve food to students as part of an assembly line

Regulations:

• Meets the nutritional standards of the National School Lunch Program and Child and Adult Food Care Program by monitoring correct serving sizes as communicated

Cleaning/Sanitation:

• Use soap and hot water to clean and sanitize food preparation and service areas.
• Use soap, hot water, and a dishwasher to clean dishes, pots, and other kitchen tools/utensils.
• Clean and sanitize refrigerators, freezers, ovens, storage room, food carts and sweep floors.

Personal Skills:

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• The ability to effectively communicate and receive instruction.
• Consistent attendance.
• Conflict resolution.
• Promote a positive working environment.

Technical Skills:

• The ability to follow recipes and operate kitchen equipment.

Other Functions/Responsibilities:

• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

• Required to maintain a current ServSafe certificate
• Previous food service experience preferred
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service attitude
• Ability to obtain required clearances (FBI Fingerprinting, Child Abuse and Criminal Background) - instructions will be provided for this process

Hours: 5.5 hours/day; 5 days a week; 180 days/year
Generally 8:00am - 1:30pm

Rate:
Starting at $15.00; may be higher depending on experience
