Drug enforcement in Chatham County is handled by a unique group called the Counter Narcotics Team. This team is made up of officers from the City of Savannah, Chatham County, and surrounding areas to work together to combat drug crime in Chatham County.

Job Summary: The Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team (CNT) Public Information Officer (PIO) position reporting to the Director of CNT requires active involvement in the drug prevention, education, and awareness efforts designed to reduce the demand for drugs in Chatham County. You will create, promote, and implement CNT’s drug awareness and education initiatives in alignment with CNT’s mission and the Director’s drug awareness and reduction program. You will be responsible for developing and administering prevention, education, and awareness programs throughout the County. You will work closely with public and private schools at the middle and high school levels to increase awareness of the dangers of opioids and other illicit drugs. You will be responsible for building on the current coalition comprised of public and private school officials, business and religious leaders, recovery and counseling specialists, and local media. Your outstanding communication and presentation skills are essential as you speak to students and the public. You will develop train-the-trainer programs and use your knowledge of Anti-Legalization Education, Youth Programs, and Drugs in the Workplace daily. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communications, or Journalism, and at least three (3) years of experience in journalism, communications, broadcasting, public relations, or a closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience in and knowledge of the dangers of drugs, drug prevention, and/or community outreach is preferred. You must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
