The Oncology Quality & Data Science Analyst is a key member of the Quality & Data Science Team within the RWJBH Data & Analytics Center of Excellence working closely with the Chief of Oncologic Quality. The incumbent provides data and analysis supporting the Oncology Patient Value Council (OPVC) and the five Oncology Patient Value Teams focused on Oncologic Mortality, Effectiveness, Safety, Satisfaction and Efficiency. Platforms utilized by the OPVC include US News & World Report (USN&WR), Vizient and the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP). Areas requiring accreditation include the Commission on Cancer (CoC), the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) program, the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative, and the American College of Radiology (ACR). Provider (CG-CAHPS [Clinical Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems]) and Outpatient Oncology (Infusion and Radiation Oncology) data provided by Press Ganey also require benchmarking and analysis.

Education:

  • Bachelor s Degree in nursing, math, computer science or related fields required.
  • Master s Degree in nursing, health administration, public health or related fields strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Google platform applications and other similar programs.
  • Vizient Analyst Certification preferred
  • USN&WR and CMS calculators strongly preferred.
  • Nursing Experience Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data to identify trends and patterns as well as discover opportunities for improvement are required.
  • Also, must have strong organizational, time management and interpersonal skills as well as ability to work both independently and as part of oncology, quality improvement and data analytics teams.
  • Knowledge of medical, surgical and radiation oncology fields preferred.
  • Programming in languages such as SQL or Python
  • Experience with statistical tools and analysis
  • Data visualization (Tableau)
  • Business/clinical skills, such as EMR database modeling, EMR front-end workflow, and EMR build/workflow.
  • Analytical skills, such as regulatory and compliance (HIPPA/ICD-10), clinical requirement gathering, and healthcare quality metrics.
  • Clinical terminology standardization.
  • Experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence methods and applications

Job Specific Requirements

  • Utilize Vizient platform to predict USN&WR cancer outcomes monthly
  • Participate in Oncology USN&WR Task Force monthly
  • Responsible for Vizient platform to calculate Quality and Accountability (Q&A) Scorecard results and updating Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey Q&A Scorecard quarterly
  • Employ Vizient platform to support data needs of and advise five Oncology Patient Value Teams monthly on opportunities for improvement
  • Participate in OPVC and five Oncology Patient Value monthly meetings
  • Supports the Chief of Oncologic Quality who co-leads the RWJBH Mortality Task Force and reports to the Cancer Care Service Line
  • Collaborates with and provides support of Performance Improvement and Decision Analytics
  • Works with Clinical Documentation Improvement and Coding specialists to enhance Vizient expected mortality, length of stay and cost
  • Assists the RWJ New Brunswick Decision Support Analyst/Team to develop and maintain data quality standards
  • Educates all levels of staff and end users, enabling them to understand data usage implications and potential improvement to productivity
  • Performs benchmarking for comparative purposes with best practice facilities
  • Demonstrates ability to respond positively to changing circumstances, acting decisively and taking effective actions. Ability to organize and prioritize job responsibilities, responding quickly to change in the environment
