Overview:
The Recreational Activities Staff I is responsible for assisting with the implementation and assessment of a therapeutic intervention. This staff member may assist with research protocols, planning, and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities. The incumbent provides programming for patients, and assists with relevant caregiver training. This position engages patients and siblings while they are in the playroom area of the Psychiatric Mental Health Program (PMHP) during appointments, and requires the incumbent to travel between playrooms, as needed.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide developmentally appropriate activities in the playroom area to support the psychosocial, behavioral, and cultural needs of the patients and their siblings.
  • Supervise patients and siblings signed into the playroom area to ensure that rules of safety are followed.
  • Effectively communicate with caregivers and providers any observation, interaction, or incident that involve the well-being of the patients or their siblings while in the playroom.
  • Participate on the program’s crisis team in providing safety around clinical care and providing support in assuring staff and patient safety.
  • Maintain materials and supplies by cleaning toys, equipment, and playroom environment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Replenish supplies, removes broken or unsafe toys/materials, notifies supervisor of ordering needs and recommends purchases of new materials.
  • Encourage developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive interactions between individuals while in the playroom. Model pro-social behaviors.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with patients, family, and staff.
  • Maintain quality and effectiveness of patient services through the implementation of, and compliance with, all program, departmental, and Institute policies, procedures and performance improvement activities.
  • Assist administratively as backup for the care centers, clinical service coordinators and administrative service coordinators as needed and when not occupied by playroom duties.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Crisis Prevention Intervention CPI training will be provided by the Psychiatric Mental Health Program. Employee must achieve and maintain certification according to the timeline established within the program.
  • Must possess and/or maintain CPR and Choking Infants/Children/Adults certification.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
    • Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
    • Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two years’ experience providing care and supervision to children with developmental disabilities is preferred.
