Job Responsibilities

Installs, repairs, and maintains chillers air handlers, condensers, compressors, fan powered boxes, direct expansion units, boilers, exhaust systems, variable air volume units, drinking fountains and all other refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Efficiently use, recover, recycle, and reclaim refrigerant. Performs minor electrical repairs with the support of the electrician. Monitors all mechanical equipment using a computer Direct Digital Control system ensuring all equipment is running efficiently and proper climate control in all facilities are maintained. Repairs and maintains all mechanical supporting equipment to include piping, pumps, valves, controllers, and actuators.

Performs preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment to include filter changes, lubrication, belt adjustments, and calibrations.

Prepares submits requisitions for tools and supplies necessary in the daily operation of all mechanical equipment.

Assists, instructs and monitor skilled and unskilled maintenance workers to assist with refrigeration and air conditioning systems repairs.

Manages and monitors the entire refrigeration recovery program for the Illinois ANG and Scott AFB. Prepares monthly reports using Refrigerant Compliance software monitoring all ozone depleting chemicals.

Performs other duties as required or assigned to maintain all Air Guard facilities at Scott AFB

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of four years of high school or equivalency.

Requires an associate degree or the completion of an approved training program in refrigeration and air conditioning.

Current CFC/HCFC certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefers a working knowledge of the tools, methods, and standards of the trade.

Prefers the ability to read, interpret and work from drawings and blueprints.


Conditions of Employment

Requires the ability to pass a DoD background investigation and obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) prior to hire or transfer.

Ability to lift and carry 80 pounds, i.e., heavy boxes, supplies and equipment.

Ability to be on feet, climb ladders and stairs, and/or stooping for long periods of time.
