About the Refrigeration Design Engineer position.

We seek an innovative refrigeration design engineer to take a significant role in designing and engineering the vapor compression system for our third-generation liquid desiccant air conditioner. The successful candidate will “get in at the ground floor” of our newly launched and funded business to design and launch into the market industry-changing commercial HVAC products. They must be comfortable overcoming design challenges under deadlines, working across teams, and working independently. Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of the refrigeration system for a novel HVAC product, including system modelling and component specification and selection
  • Direct technicians and engineers to assemble and ultimately manufacture the refrigeration subsystem
  • Design validation plans and oversee tests to address performance, reliability, and robustness
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues or poor system performance and implement corrective actions
  • Coordinate with design groups to address changes affecting multiple aspects of a system
  • Lead cost reduction and design for manufacturing & reliability efforts on the refrigeration system
  • Summarize and present findings to promote changes to design and/or process workflow
  • Document system architecture and function
  • Provide leadership in understanding of industry standards and specifications regarding conformance, codes, methods, and performance related tests
  • Guide development of refrigerator laboratory infrastructure and equipment
  • Participate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis

Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or directly adjacent field of study; PhD in refrigeration engineering preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in working with refrigeration system design post education
  • Demonstrated history of analyzing, and troubleshooting fluid/thermal systems including oil management, heat transfer optimization, and multi-phase refrigerant flow
  • Strong critical thinking skills: ability to deep dive into cause-effect and complex diagnostics
  • Structured problem-solving skills leveraging inputs such as functional documentation (P&ID diagrams, mechanical drawings, flow diagrams)

Pay: $175,000.00 - $225,000.00 per year
