Now searching for seasoned Certified Dental Assistants (Bilingual Preferred but not Required) to join our Dental team!

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of pharmacy and/or their designee, the Dental Assistant will assist the dentist during examination and treatment of patients; prepares working areas, instruments, and materials for use in dentistry in accordance with licensing, State and Federal funding agencies and other regulatory requirements, and in accordance with the policies and procedures established by THC.

Contacts and interactions vary and may involve multiple constituencies such as direct interaction with THC’s executive management, community organizers, the general public, THC’s patients, physicians, colleagues, assigned staff, vendors, contractors and consultants for the purpose of providing and exchanging information.

Example of Essential Job Functions

  • Assists with procedures by handling instruments; prepares or mixes dental materials as instructed.
  • Assure quality of care is given to all dental patients.
  • Prepares work areas and instruments for dentist; keep work area neat and orderly; cleans; oils and sets up equipment; dust and disinfects surfaces; sterilizes instruments; sets up instrument trays.
  • Review inventory to maintain adequate supplies; ensures materials have not surpassed expiration date for use.
  • Take dental impressions and send to lab.
  • Assists with taking, developing, and mounting x-rays.
  • Adhere to the highest standard of dental practices, ethics and professionalism at all times.
  • Assisting in supervision, directing, training and educating new Dental Assistants.
  • Back-up for the dental front desk.
  • Other duties as directed by the Program Administrator, Dental Director, or their designee.
  • Ability to relate to the public regardless of ethics, religion, and economic status.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required

  • High School Diploma.
  • Dental Assistant state certification.
  • Maryland state X-Ray certification.
  • Experience with digital radiography phosphorus plate system is preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • State mandated CME requirements.
  • Three (3) years experience as a Dental Assistant. Experience in FQHC setting preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Nterprise Dentrix software preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of FQHC operations, operating principles, guidelines and bylaws. Excellent leadership, customer service, organizational and presentation skills as well as the ability to effectively communicate THC’s vision, and motivate others to achieve it organizationally, departmentally, and personally/professionally. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing). Ability to plan and organize work initiatives to successfully accomplish center/organizational goals and objectives. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and delegate as appropriate. Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Ability to identify, develop and implement short/long-term strategic goals and objectives. Ability to develop and maintain customer relationships; influence, build credibility and trust. Ability to think critically as well as apply critical thinking skills. Ability to: ensure and advocate for quality healthcare and services; and, lead and manage a diverse staff.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Dental Assistant state certification.
  • Maryland state X-Ray certification.

Physical Demands

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.

Ability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

Ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy objects in excess of 75lbs as well as squat, walk, climb, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, grasp, reach, pull and repetitive motions.
