Dental Assistant

We are a general family practice looking for a long-term teammate to join our group. Dental experience would be ideal but we are willing to train the RIGHT individual. Basic training will take approximately 6 months if you are new to the field and this investment in an individual will only be considered if you are a good fit. What is a good fit? In the briefest of terms, we are looking for someone who is professional, calm, organized, and stable. Dentistry is a fast-moving industry serving people who largely have anxieties related to this field. For this reason, an individual who can navigate this without getting overwhelmed is desired. There are lots of organizational issues related to patient care that must be managed. We need someone who has good follow through in the backdrop of lots of “buzzing” about them i.e. multiple patients throughout the day, sterilization and room change-over, assisting dentist, managing patient anxieties, documenting visits, walking patient out, etc. Throw in training to the mix, and this becomes a large commitment the current team must make in you. But for the right person, we want to make this investment in you. It really is that important.

If you DO have dental experience and already understand the demands of dentistry, then we are looking for the right fit. We cast our net large in order to find this good fit. If you have the experience but don’t have the right attitude, then perhaps we are not the office for you. We are not looking for dental experience alone. We are looking for a person who has compassion and kindness at their core and being at the service of others is in your nature. If a patient is waiting in the chair, and you are just plain having a bad day, and it’s easy to let them sit by themselves for extended periods of time without acknowledgement, then you are not the right fit. If a patient is anxious about an upcoming procedure, and they have lots of question, what is your natural response? If it is to roll your eyes and rush through to get them out of your hair because you are stressed yourself, then you are not the right fit. Do you see everyone around you running frantically and instead of helping, find busy work to avoid truly helping your team-mates? Then you are not the right fit. Are you too important to wipe a counter or take out the garbage? Then you are not the right fit. It is difficult to quantify "the right fit" in a job description. We are a team of people who are professional, stable, hard-working, and kind. We need another member who can complement this office culture. In essence, the right fit is someone who can step outside of themselves as being at the center of the universe and instead place the patient there. If this means helping your teammates so patients can receive the best care then you are the right fit. Are we perfect? No, but neither are you. Are we problem solvers? ALL THE TIME.

If you do not have the dental experience but understand the nuances of this ad, then we would love to meet you. Upon being hired, you will be sponsored and registered with the State as a Registered Dental Assistant while on-the-job training is offered. Your actual starting position, however, will be as a Sterilization Technician and the process of learning the trade of Dentistry will begin immediately. Self-study at home is highly encouraged for motivated individuals wishing to learn dental terminology faster. We will be providing excellent hands-on training for the right person. This position is ideal for a person who likes to understand the ‘whys’ of various procedures because we want critical thinkers on our team. In order to effectively do this job, we need people who are comfortable working/caring for others, with computers, and value accountability. Having excellent fine motor skills is also a bonus.
