Provides competent nursing care for individuals, families, and the community. Provides direct patient care and comprehensive TB services, including counseling, treatment, and referral to individuals in the TB program. Provides nursing care per agency policy/procedures, standing orders, and patient specific orders.

Utilizes the nursing process to develop, coordinate, implement and revise nursing care plans with patients, families, communities, and health care providers.


Completes necessary physical assessment and health history of patient.


Assesses needed patient care, patient and family resources, community problems, barriers to care, and utilization of services available to determine plan of care.


Obtains necessary lab work including, CBC, liver function tests, IGRAs, HIV test, and sputum specimens.


Provides counseling and education about appropriate laboratory testing, follow-up x-rays, physical examination and therapy for TB prevention or disease.


Develops nursing plan of care for patients on treatment for TB infection or disease.


Evaluates treatment and/or administration of medical under physician or standing order.


Evaluates effectiveness of care and provide appropriate follow-up and communication with patient, physician, and other health care workers.


Maintains and dispenses medications in the TB clinic.


Participates in CQI activities.


State Minimum Requirements: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Some positions require a valid driver's license and/or certification in Basic Life Support. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: Associate of Science and current license as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina or a compact state.

DHEC employees are required to participate in disaster preparedness during hazardous weather or declaration of an emergency. This involves being subject to duty and or call on a 24-hour basis.
You must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable transportation.
This position may require working early (before 8:30 am), evening (after 5:00 pm) and/or Saturday's.
Ability to lift 30 pounds and stand for long periods of time, if required.

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS: All new employees who are healthcare providers with job-specific exposure risk are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, varicella, and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

Our Public Health Workforce Protection Policy requires healthcare staff with job-specific exposure risk to be fully vaccinated or alternatively, tested for COVID-19 on a weekly basis.
