Job description:

This position provides primary care with responsibility for a continuum of care from the initial assessment through development and maintenance of health care including physical, psychiatric, and dental maintenance. Clinic hours for this position are day/afternoon/evening depending on the shift offered.

• Evaluates resident's mental status/mental health condition through interview, health screen, health appraisal and observation.
• Provides basic mental health intervention and refers to psychiatrist or mental health resource for further evaluation, intervention or transfer to a mental health institution in collaboration with behavioral health services staff.
• Follows national standards of care for safe medication administration within the state Nurse Practice Act and the Division of Youth Services policies, procedures and protocols.
• Transcribes, orders, prepares, and administers medications without error per prescribed provider's orders.
• Provides individual and group education regarding health promotion, disease and injury prevention to youth and staff on an ongoing basis.
• Provides ongoing education regarding medication administration, infection prevention and other health related topics specific to staff.

Gilliam Youth Services Center is a secure co-ed detention center located in Denver. Through restorative principles, we teach youth to become responsible, productive citizens while keeping the community safe. The program serves up to 35 youth, between the ages of 10-18, both male and female, from the 2nd Judicial District located in the city and county of Denver.

The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. The Division operates fifteen secure facilities that serve youth who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed.
