Duties and Responsibilities
The Biology Department is seeking a highly motivated part-time Research Assistant to perform technical and administrative tasks and assist with ongoing research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Yanan Chen on Loyola University Chicago’s Lakeshore Campus. The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant will be to manage the breeding and phenotypic data collection for various experiments of transgenic mice, and harvest and process tissues for histological and electron microscopic analysis.
  • Procedures including mating mice, checking for newborns, ID tagging, weaning, weekly body weight collection when needed, mouse experiments
  • Responsible for harvesting tissues and processing electron microscope sample
  • Will supervise and train students in research tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field and one to two years of related experience.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field
  • 10+ year’s experience in mouse husbandry and in collecting the phenotypic data described under duties and responsibilities is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate well with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and well-organized records is essential.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer software and general lab equipment is helpful.
  • Must have experience to work independently and supervise others.
  • Proven attention to detail is also required.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field

Computer Skills
