I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:
The Research Associate will support the other full-time employees that manage two outside grants and contracts that involve research related to the property tax in the United States. This position is an integral part of the GWIPP’s Property Tax projects and the responsibilities include the following:
  • Collecting and analyzing data, including state statutes and regulations, related to how each implements its property tax policies.
  • Identifying changes that states have made and recording these changes in the nationally-renowned database as well as providing state-specific information concerning certain property tax programs.
  • Preparing analytical reports on specific aspects of the property tax and related programs and ongoing trends.
  • Providing guidance and assistance to the team of graduate research assistances who work on the project.
  • Addressing inquiries from database users as well as the founders of the program.
  • Contributing to team-wide projects including developing content for seminars and conferences.
  • Compiling legislative changes and revise the database accordingly. Independently research and analyze current trends related to property taxes and local government financing. Provide recommendations regarding the best methods for obtaining the information and ensuring that data are accurately captured.
  • Conducting research and providing analytic support to research projects undertaken in conjunction with wider dissemination of the database. Assist in developing seminars to be used by the project funders or presented to them or other interested organizations
  • Assisting in developing training materials and providing training for the graduate assistants Assist graduate assistants with questions that might arise concerning both process and content
  • Investigating other sources of similar data and how such information can be incorporated into the existing database. Explore how other organizations could use or have used the database and how their uses could be used by other organizations.


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree and 1 year of experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

  • Strong interest in state and local fiscal policy with related experience in this area a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences and synthesize research
  • Ability to interpret and discuss qualitative and quantitative related research
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team as well as the capacity to work on multiple tasks on short notice
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in related field, such as Public Policy, Public Finance, Economics

$50,624.91 - $70,830.70
