What you’ll do:

The Chemist - NMR Spectroscopy is responsible for leading projects that enable clients to understand the chemical and thermal properties their materials, especially polymers. The candidate will utilize NMR spectroscopy to determine molecular identity and structure of material s to help create solutions for client problems.

The individual performing this role also has a key responsibility with communication. The individual must communicate clearly and effectively with his/her colleagues and internal and external clients. To effectively perform this role, regular attendance and punctuality are required. It is also expected that the individual will act in a courteous and professional manner, and comply with company, safety, and regulatory policies and procedures.

Successful candidates in this role will use their skills to perform the following to support Intertek’s analytical service offerings

• Collaborates with members of the spectroscopy and materials properties teams to solve problems for clients using NMR
• Analyzes wide variety of materials including polymers, inorganics materials (fillers, raw materials), and complete unknowns
• Uses NMR to determine identity and structure of materials
• Designs experiments, collect and interpret data, author and issue formal reports
• Able to distinguish good measurements from poor ones, identify appropriate next steps, and modify methods to produce accurate results
• Ensures compliance of company/client SOP, protocols, safety policies, methods, or other procedures with government rules and regulations

What it takes to be successful in this role:

• BS in Chemistry or related field with 5+ years industrial experience in NMR or PhD with direct research experience relating to NMR
• Working knowledge of the fundamentals of NMR and/or Solid State NMR
• Demonstrated ability to apply chemical and analytical knowledge and experience to a broad range of materials for non-standard analysis. Must be able to think beyond standard analytical approaches
• Excellent organization/multitasking, project management, and communication skills
• Excellent teamwork ability to integrate expertise into multi-technique solutions to complex problems
• Experience using software packages such as MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Share Point)
• General knowledge of safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents/reagents, chemicals and materials
• Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, and clients
