SUMMARY

The Research & Data Analyst supports the research and data needs of the ECDHS: Evidence to Impact program. This position will primarily support the implementation and evaluation of early childhood development (ECD) systems-building efforts through the ECDHS: Evidence to Impact Center’s aim to support states to build/strengthen comprehensive state systems that bring early childhood health and development, mental and child health, early care and education, child welfare, and other human services and family support program partners- as well as community leaders, families and other collaborators- together to develop seamless systems of care for young children and their families. The Research & Data Analyst will support research, evaluation and continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts by extracting, collating, analyzing and visualizing data from multiple platforms in support of evaluating and continuously improving the Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) efforts of the Center.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the work of the Research Manager who is responsible for overseeing research/evaluation efforts.
  • Conduct data extraction, management, analysis and visualization of analytics for the platforms used to support TTA and CQI, including but not limited to:
    • Survey administration platforms (e.g., Alchemer, Qualtrics)
    • Web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics)
    • Online databases (e.g., SmartSheet)
    • Project management software
  • Develop and administer web-based surveys using Alchemer.
  • Develop and implement new data collection protocols to further CQI efforts, as appropriate.
  • Create and continually maintain databases of collected data using Excel, SPSS and similar tools.
  • Prepare data visualizations to support evaluation and CQI efforts.
    • Includes both static charts as well as more complex, interactive dashboards
    • Prepared for both standard reporting cycles (e.g., quarterly, annually) as well as for ad hoc requests to serve immediate CQI goals
    • Built using standard data visualization software packages (such as Tableau or Power BI)
  • Support qualitative data collection (e.g., interviews, focus groups) and analyses.
  • Track lifecycles of key resources disseminated through Center platforms to assess resource impact and marketing effectiveness.
  • Respond to quick turnaround requests for specific data analyses, including analyses needed for quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Support Center communications on data and data analysis (with the support of the Research Manager).
  • Participate in project Data Team and additional ad hoc meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of program evaluation and social science research methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience running descriptive statistics in Excel or more advanced quantitative analysis software (experience with SPSS preferred).
  • Experience analyzing qualitative data using qualitative analysis software (experience with NVivo preferred).
  • Ability to create data visualizations for both research and non-research audiences using tools such as Excel, Tableau and PowerBI.
  • Experience with various analytics, including Google Analytics, application analytics and learning management system analytics.
  • Experience or strong interest in using data for continuous quality improvement (CQI).
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in simple terms and present results to diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform independently as well as in a team structure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Ability to be flexible in responding to emerging data needs.
  • Knowledge of programming (Python, Java) is a plus but is not required.

EDUCATION

Master’s degree in social science research methods or related field OR Bachelor’s degree in research focused field and at least five years of related experience working in social science research.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity and sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also, they may need to remain seated for extended periods, can perform repetitive motions, and reach for objects. An employee is frequently required to hold a writing instrument, communicate verbally, and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. They may be required to grasp objects, push, and pull objects, bend, stand, walk, squat, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for data preparation or analysis, and expansive reading. May need to lift up to 30 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounter while performing this job. Depending on work location, the incumbent will typically work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent, and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels or be subject to working conditions conducive to a home environment. When travel is expected, the incumbent will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during those times. #LI-remote
