Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Research Teaching Specialist II for the Department of Oral Biology with the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM). Under the direction of the Chair of Oral Biology Center, is responsible for management of a large size laboratory and performing technical/research activities including supervision, training (students/technicians), maintenance and other administrative responsibilities. Conducts and supervises processing and preparing highly specialized research studies.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assists in the establishment of performance standards, selection of methodology and coordination of analytical, microbiological techniques for basic and clinical research and teaching to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
  • Assigns and supervises the work of the non-professional technical staff and evaluates their performance.
  • Supervises initial contact with perspective study sponsors including development of research protocols, data sheets and preliminary drafting of IRB documents.
  • Performs various research and clinical laboratory operations independently or as assigned, relating to teaching and investigatory activities of the laboratory, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
  • Assists with the instructing and training of dental residents, post-graduate dental students, graduate students, dental students and interested faculty in the laboratory and with microbiologist procedures and instrumentation in order to develop skills necessary to perform the required functions.
  • Performs statistical analysis of laboratory or sponsored study data as required.
  • Assists in the typing and mailing of report(s) to study sponsors.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related sciences.
  • Three (3) years of experience as a medical technologist during the last five years.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience using cloning methodologies in prokaryotic cells is a plus.
  • Experience in growth and maintenance of bacteria.
